Rob Rock Rules,

This review is from: Eyes of Eternity (Audio CD)
Rob Rock once again hits us with an astounding metal album. All the tracks are beautifully written and arranged with blistering performances being the standard across the board. The one song that will make most people do a double take is the albums closer 'The Hour of Dawn' with its four and a half minute guitar solo including such respected players as Jack Frost and the production mastermind of metal Roy Z. In short if you like Halford, Dickinson, Dio and the like you owe it to yourself to go and check out Rob Rock.

2003's Eyes of Eternity is the second solo album from journeyman vocalist Rob Rock (Joshua, Impelliteri, Axel Rudi Pell, MARS and others). As with the first Rob Rock solo album, Eyes of Eternity features guitar work and songwriting assistance from Roy Z (of Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson's solo bands).
Eyes of Eternity stays pretty close to the formula established on Rage of Creation, which is probably a good thing considering how killer that album was. It's a straightforward heavy metal album with a strong power metal influence and a major emphasis on melodies. Think Tad Morose, Brainstorm and Thunderstone. Roy Z serves up some killer guitar work (as does Rik Renstrom, who is no slouch either), and Rock's vocals are absolutely incredible. He has a tremendously powerful voice and real range, and knows when and when not to totally cut loose. Rob Rock has made no secret of his Christian faith, and that faith is subtly referenced in the lyrics of this album. It's nothing over the top, and shouldn't turn off fans that are just looking for a good melodic metal album. If you're already a Rob Rock fan, this is a must-have album. If you're not familiar with Rock's work (where the heck have you been, anyway?) and are into bands like Masterplan, Jorn, Narnia, Axel Rudi Pell and Firewind, you definitely need to check out Rob Rock's solo work. Rage of Creation is probably a better starting point, but Eyes of Eternity is a close second.

If you like the sound of Dio, a little of Black Label Society or similar, but would rather the lyrics be driven by God's word and in a very powerful way, then this is for you! Outstanding guitar, outstanding vocals, outstanding production, and simply outstanding everything. Rob rock has a classic hard rock singing voice that is extraordinary. I have all of teh Rob Rock CDs and look forward to the next one.
