Book Description

Mira January 1, 2005
Buried under the ocean, deep within the Bermuda Triangle, lies a treasure worth killing for.

Having already lost two men in her life to the lure of the bounty of the sea, Samantha Carlyle wants nothing to do with treasure hunts. She wants to be left in peace to run her dive resort on Seafire Island.

But unexplained events continue to happen. Adam O'Connor--Samantha's ex-lover--arrives unannounced on the tiny island. Samantha becomes the target of an attempted kidnapping. And she's beginning to realize that none of the resort's guests are who they claim to be.

Caught in an undertow of lies and murder, Samantha confronts the secrets that have for centuries, been drawing men to their watery graves. And she realizes that the little she knows about the lost treasure is more than enough to get her killed.

More About the Author

New York Times and USA Today best selling author, Heather Graham was born somewhere in Europe and kidnapped by gypsies when she was a small child. She went on to join the Romanian circus as a trapeze artist and lion tamer. When the circus came to South Florida, she stayed, discovering that she preferred to be a shark and gator trainer.

Not really.

Heather is the child of Scottish and Irish immigrants who met and married in Chicago, and moved to South Florida, where she has spent her life. (She has, at least, been to the Russian circus in Moscow, where she wished she was one of the incredibly talented and coordinated trapeze artists.) She majored in theater arts at the University of South Florida. After a stint of several years in dinner theater, back-up vocals, and bartending, she stayed home after the birth of her third child and began to write. Her first book was with Dell, and since then, she has written over one hundred and fifty novels and novellas including category, suspense, historical romance, vampire fiction, time travel, occult, horror, and Christmas family fare.

She is pleased to have been published in approximately twenty-five languages, and has had over seventy-five million books in print. She has been honored with awards from Walden Books, B. Dalton, Georgia Romance Writers, Affaire de Coeur, Romantic Times, the Lifetime Achievement Award from RWA and more. Heather has also become the proud recipient of the Silver Bullet from Thriller Writers. Heather has had books selected for the Doubleday Book Club and the Literary Guild, and has been quoted, interviewed, or featured in such publications as The Nation, Redbook, Mystery Book Club, People and USA Today and appeared on many newscasts including Today, Entertainment Tonight and local television.

Heather loves travel and anything that has to do with the water, and is a certified scuba diver. She also loves ballroom dancing. Each year she hosts the Vampire Ball and Dinner theater at the RT convention raising money for the Pediatric Aids Society and in 2006 she hosted the first Writers for New Orleans Workshop to benefit the stricken Gulf region. She is also the founder of "The Slush Pile Players", presenting something that's almost like entertainment for various conferences and benefits. Married since high school graduation and the mother of five, her greatest love in life remains her family, but she also believes her career has been an incredible gift, and she is grateful every day to be doing something that she loves so very much for a living.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read, January 23, 2005
This review is from: Eyes of Fire (Mira) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sam has had to deal with a lot of loss in her life. Her mom left her and her father when she was a baby, then her father disappears, she sends the love of her life away after a misunderstanding, and then her good friend disappears. She is coping the best she can, taking over the family business as hostess on a private island, leading dives, and giving vacationers a few weeks in paradise. So, when the love of her life, Adam, shows up again just in time to rescue her from a kidnapping attempt, she wants answers!

I liked the book, it was a fun read. The romance was good (if a little volatile) and the book was definitely filled with mystery. The onlt problem I had was that there were just too many sub-plots going on at the same time. I had a hard time focusing on the main characters because I was so busy trying to figure out what everyone else had to do with the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in mystery/romance books and to anyone interested in diving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting Romantic Suspense, June 13, 2005

I've enjoyed many books by Heather Graham but this was undoubtedly one of her finest! Very exciting, very romantic, and I couldn't put it down. I didn't guess who the villain was.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many characters, plot not that exciting., October 10, 2008

This review is from: Eyes of Fire (Mira) (Mass Market Paperback)
Samantha returns from taking her guests out diving to see the mail boat arrive with an unannounced guest on board. A guest that she knows and wishes he'd never returned. Adam O'Connor remembers clearly what Sam had been like years before and his heart still stops when he sees her. He introduces himself to some of her guests and to Sam like he's never met her before, which throws her off and has her fleeing from his presence in haste.

Once back in her cabin, she decides to soak in the tub and debate with herself on what to do about Adam. But she doesn't get to debate long. Someone has broken into her cabin, dressed all in black with a black mask, intent on drugging and kidnapping her right from her tub. Who should come to her rescue but Adam. Adam refuses to tell her why he's suddenly showed up, why he couldn't come to her aid when her father had disappeared, when her friend, Hank Jennings, disappeared.

Then he begins to point out that her guests aren't who they say they are. Suddenly Sam is suspicious of every single one of them. But one thing is clear; one or more of her guests are after something, a treasure under the sea that caused the disappearance of two men she cared about, the possible murder of same friends. Who can Sam trust?

Oh, where do I begin? I usually really enjoy Graham's novels, but I found this one fell almost flat compared to the others I've read. First: Too many characters and too many disconnections. It was getting hard to remember which character was which. Thoughts never completed. And while you get the story of the treasure aboard the Beldona, it's not as exciting as you're made to think.

I did like the tension between Sam and Adam. You find out what happened in the past between them and why it fell apart and you get a greater picture of how naive Sam was - and sort of still is. And while there are a couple of action scenes well worth reading, the rest of the story seems to fall flat, like there's no substance to it. A couple of little twists are a bit of a surprise, but seem to feel downplayed. I really believe that if there had been less characters in play and more substance to the story, the book would have been much better.
