4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Ol' Skool...
..."Two Ocassions" and "Shoot 'em Up Movies" are two of this place's favorite slo-jams; they always seem to light up the party when they are played in the clubs. Thanks to The Deele and early Reid/Edmonds.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too sappy and saturated with generic funk!!
Most of the Ohio outfit's music does take a break from the streets and takes it on to the rising mainstream lovers with "Two Occasions" and "Shoot Em' Up Movies" which were the only standouts plus "Let No One Seperate Us." This is the story...Years ago I remember hearing that song "Shoot 'em up Movies". I really loved that song, but I could never remember who sung it. I asked people, "do you remember that song Shoot 'em up Movies?" They'll be like, "No". So I kept on search archives but still no luck. Finally, BET were showing back tracks and The Deele video came on, and I said, "Hey, that's the song! " Interesting story, huh:) Now, I can actually start jammin'!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too sappy and saturated with generic funk!!, August 18, 2008
This review is from: Eyes of a Stranger (Audio CD)
Most of the Ohio outfit's music does take a break from the streets and takes it on to the rising mainstream lovers with "Two Occasions" and "Shoot Em' Up Movies" which were the only standouts plus "Let No One Seperate Us." Other slow songs were a bit too sappy, even for a mainstream audience. What really disappointed me is that the danceable songs were too generic and outdated for 1987-88. New Jack Swing had taken over R&B/Dance music, but those funk tracks sounded like recycled songs from Prince and The Time during their heyday. I think Babyface and LA Reid knew that they had made their mark as successful producers and song writers (with work done for Pebbles and The Whispers, as well as Babyface's first solo album one year earlier) that they gave their group mostly scraps. Those are the reasons why I found Eyes Of A Stranger inferior to Street Beat and Material Thangz! Unless you are a hardcore Babyface, fan ignore this purchase and just download "Two Occasions", "Shoot Em' Up Movies", and "Let No One Seperate Us."

Some of the members of this group attended the historical Hughes High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and they started their career singing on it's stage in the Merry Go Round talent and variety show back in the 70s. Great CD! GO BIG RED!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great release from a year full of great albums, October 22, 2006
This review is from: Eyes Of A Stranger (Audio CD)
Perhaps second only to The Whispers "Just Gets Better With Time" as SOLAR Records' best 1987 album, this album from Babyface and company is notable especially for the title track, "Shoot 'Em Up Movies", and "Two Occasions."
