This song is interpreted so many ways, but I think it is basically about a girl who likes to tease, that is giving him hope of a relationship that's just not gonna happen because of a girl that is leading him on. He talks of bad dreams, probably about the girl, that make him crazy, they make him want to fall. She calls him on the phone and says she is alone but only when he isn't near. Cold hearted...In other words, I'm available, but wait, your far away so I guess we can't see each other. He believes all of her lies to keep the dream alive.

This song is so haunting and could and should be considered one of the best songs of the 80's. His vocals are on key perfectly and the song has such a beautiful melody. The only negative is that crazy rock "bridge" in the middle, but then soon picks back up with the great slow ballad with "Now I close my eyes, and I wonder why...." This is where he seemingly realizes what type of person she is and he is then angry at himself. That's just my take on one of my all-time favorite songs.

In the 80s, the career of Billy Idol ascended rapidly with a string of songs and videos, always attempting to look like a bad-ass. But with his handsome looks and easily marketed hair-do, he was headed straight for pop fame - after departing Generation X. After about 8 such songs, listeners were surprised when he released a ballad, "Eyes without a Face" (with a french chorus - sounds risable, right?). He should have fallen on his face, but the song was instead melodically strong, and more than a little haunting.

Everyone thought he had been nothing more than a humorous blowhard who sang some mindless posturing songs, but here was a gorgeous, aching melody (albeit with an idiotic bridge) with quite sensitive production. Neither the song nor Idol was mocked for this about-face, because somehow he pulled it off. I didn't know a single person who disliked this song, and I'm betting you've forgotten how beautiful it is.

Seriously, go over to Youtube and replay it. The first 50 seconds as the intro plays and we zoom in on Idol's jaw-dropping face as he issues simple declaritive statement/lyrics... are truly striking. Singing it with his trademark sneer, his striking blue eyes, his perfect skin and geometric features...

At the time, some fan wrote to Kasey Casem and asked him to find out what the song meant, and in a "long-distance dedication" Casem read in his perky voice 2 or 3 hysterical sentences from Idol that described "pathetic lovers wallowing in self-pity," that did little to elucidate the song but it certainly made me laugh.
I wish I could find those lines again.

Although subjective, I feel this is some of the best music ever. Easy buy at Amazon and would buy again from them.

I have no complaint about this product. As good as this perfect Billy Idol's song. Great! And it is over.
