Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Someone is out to get Robin Trainer. After dealing with career problems and divorce, Robin is suddenly a success. As coanchor of a new TV show, she displays winning chemistry with handsome colleague Carter Brooks, and her new nonfiction book is climbing the charts. Then the sabotage begins: a nasty note left in her purse, book jackets torn through the photo of her face, a dead roach in her coffee cup, a Barbie doll with eyes poked out, makeup that inflames her face, a drugged brownie. Although Robin suspects station superstar Vicky Cruz, an internal investigation—revealing private information about Robin’s childhood with an abusive stepmother and a recent ill-advised fling with Carter—points back to Robin herself. Desperate to clear her name, she accepts help from an unlikely quarter while wondering who, among the handful of people closest to her, she can trust. Former Cosmo editor White, author of the Bailey Weggins series, seems to thrive in an atmosphere of glitz, as she produces increasing levels of suspense and danger in what is her most compelling and snappiest stand-alone yet. --Michele Leber

Review

Sharp as a stiletto! White captures the cut-throat world of entertainment TV where the latest star should trust no one if she’s to build her show...or save her very life.” (Lisa Gardner, New York Times bestselling author)

With pop culture references and attention to fashion detail, White keeps the story both timely and engaging. It’s her devious mind, however, that puts the thrill in this thriller. (Publishers Weekly)

“Top-tier psychological suspense with thrills aplenty, more than enough mystery to keep you turning the pages late into the night, and a sharp protagonist you won’t soon forget. I highly recommend it.” (James Grippando, New York Times bestselling author)

“Former Cosmo editor White, seems to thrive in an atmosphere of glitz, as she produces increasing levels of suspense and danger in what is her most compelling and snappiest stand-alone yet.” (Booklist)

“A deliciously dishy treat.” ( Readers Digest on Eyes On You )

“This thriller set in the New York media world, from the former editor of Cosmopolitan, features a TV host who must figure out why someone is stalking and undermining her in increasingly dangerous ways.” ( Los Angeles Times )

“Set in the glamorous world of television, Kate White’s Eyes On You wraps you in suspense and keeps you pinned to the page. I couldn’t put it down.” (Lisa Scottoline, New York Times bestselling author)

“This is a must have summer read and an enjoyable who-dun-it.” (People)

“This is a must have summer read and an enjoyable who-dun-it.” (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)

“A hot summer reads to pack for the beach. Kate White keeps up the pace by adding a little more suspense and a little more danger from beginning to end.” (USA Today)

EYES ON YOU, the newest novel from Kate White is a suspense novel that keeps you hooked until the very last page.” (Women's Health)

More About the Author

Kate White is the New York Times bestselling author of nine works of fiction--six Bailey Weggins mysteries (including So Pretty It Hurts and If Looks Could Kill), and three suspense novels: Hush, The Sixes, and the upcoming Eyes on You, which will be published in June of this year.

Kate's writer's eye has been described by the New York Times as "scathingly observant." The Los Angeles Times says of Kate's work: "It's like devouring a box of chocolates!" Publisher's Weekly recent review of her new book, Eyes on You, calls it "timely and engaging," adding that "it's [White's] devious mind that puts the thrill in this thriller." Her books have been published in 18 countries.

For 14 years. Kate was the editor in chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, taking it to number one and keeping it there. Though she loved the job (and the Cosmo beauty closet!), she decided to leave in late 2013 to work full time as an author, a long-time dream of hers.

Kate is currently editing the Mystery Writers of America cookbook, a selection of recipes from many of the top selling authors in the field.

Like many mystery writers, Kate fell in love with the genre after reading her first Nancy Drew book, The Secret of Redgate Farm, and she still admires those cliffhanger endings created by "Carolyn Keene."

She is married and the mother of two children. She once had her young daughter stalk her through the woods so she could better describe the sounds of someone being followed.

Kate is also the author of several popular career books, including I Shouldn't Be Telling You This: How to Ask for the Money, Snag the Promotion, and Create the Career You Deserve, and Why Good Girls Don't Get Ahead but Gutsy Girls Do.

Imperfect characters can be beguiling as long as they remained relatable, valiant, and readable. In fact, I rather prefer them a bit scarred and worn. But Robin Trainer, in Kate White’s Eyes on You, is just pitiable, vacuous, and dull.

And there’s no weight in the storyline to fall back on. Robin’s TV-star life is being derailed by a hater who slips threatening notes into her handbag and slashes copies of her latest publication. A worthy premise, but we are introduced to her by way of her looks and success more than her substance: the “FM” Chanel shoes, the new hairdo that compliments her face, the glitzy NYC penthouse party thrown in her honor, the Town Cars, her conviction that she has never looked better, and her new book’s Amazon ranking. (That last one leaves me speechless. It’s just so - planted.) With no hesitation, she throws away her evening bag because it‘s been stained by the ink on that note. Which, inexplicably she tore up and disposed of, attributing it – less inexplicably – to someone jealous of her success.

I might have tolerated Robin and Eyes On You had it been more crafty. But the predominating dialog, abundant choppy paragraphs, and the plethora of posed characters all litter rather than enlighten. I was constantly fighting the distracting lure of other books that could be read.

Until I just gave up the fight entirely.

A masterful writer of page-turners, Kate White has once again kept me riveted to her psychologically suspenseful novel, "Eyes on You." Intrigue, subterfuge, and threatening surprises drive Robin Trainer--a good-hearted, talented, NYC television host who is making a cheerful comeback after a difficult divorce and career plummet--to near terror. An unknowable, uncontrollable force is not only determined to undermine Robin's job, but also possibly take her life. Who can she trust in her small circle of confidants? White weaves an intricate web of curveball clues that made me suspect nearly everyone in Robin's professional and personal orbit.

Tormented by a traumatic childhood experience and confused by a complicated sexy secret affair as well, Robin is especially vulnerable. My heart ached for this strong, likable character.

Yep, there is a murder. And creepy moments. And a stunning betrayal. In the end, newfound happiness emerges. But I'll not share more of the plot, so that you, too, can ride the high tide of this story-telling thrill.

One thing is for sure: It is a book-lover's joy to keep your "Eyes on Kate White."

Besides Cosmo, I first started reading Kate White after I was handed a copy of "I Shouldn't Be Telling You This: How to Ask for the Money, Snag the Promotion, and Create the Career You Deserve." (It is now my go-to recommendation for any gutsy girl looking to get a leg up on her career.) Since I loved her non-fiction so much, I was excited to start reading her fiction beginning with "Eyes on You."

EOY was SO much fun and truly a page turner. It's one of those books that keeps you up well past bedtime with cliffhangers lurking around every chapter. What's more, the insider look into the media world was fascinating!!

This is a perfect book to take to the beach, read at the gym, or enjoy on a cozy day in bed.

I received a copy of Eyes on You by Kate White through Goodreads first-reads program in return for an honest review.

The book description gives a fine description of what the story is about so I won't repeat it here; but no one could have prepared me for the fast-paced, constantly twisting & turning, edge-of-your-seat, psychological suspense that I found inside. This is a book that's a quick-read because you'll find it difficult to put down!

Robin seems to have it all coming together for her career-wise, only to discover that "having it all" also means being surrounded by people who each have their own plausible reasons to bring her down. While I didn't find Robin to be an especially likeable character, the growing psychological toll on her is intelligently & well done, making it easy to wonder how you'd react in the same situation, and eager to find the identity of the person behind the mayhem. And ruining her career isn't enough - this person wants her DEAD! Will you be as surprised as she was to learn who is behind it all? The book doesn't divulge the answer until the end, and you'll be following each twist and turn until then. An excellent read!

Kate White's books are always suspenseful and riveting, but this one is especially so. Robin Trainer lives what we all fear that if we finally get everything we want, our lives will start to unravel. She relives fears from her childhood and is again afraid that no one will believe her that what is happening is actually happening. She hardly believes it herself. But soon things go from very threatening to downright dangerous, and she realizes she has to take action, real action.
I kept switching who I thought it was until the end. Nobody is nice, everyone in the world of television has an agenda so it provides the perfect backdrop for this kind of suspense. It will keep your mind working, but it's like a bag of chips. Very hard to stop at a few pages!
