One of the stronger Eyewitness books,
This review is from: DK Eyewitness Books: Amphibian (Hardcover)
For those who are new to the Eyewitness format, it consists of thematically arranged two-page spreads of brilliant photographs on a white background. There is an intro paragraph in the upper left-hand corner, but most of the text is in the captions that go with the photographs. Generally, the biological sciences titles are the strongest in this series, since other topics often need a more organized progression of topics. You'll get a lot of information out of these books, but you won't get a systematic anaylsis.
This is an especially good book. The organization works well for the topic, and there is a great deal of in-depth information not normally covered even in high school-level biology books. Great for any child interested in amphibians!

My son and I greatly enjoyed this book. It is presented in the typical, and attractive, Eyewitness style, and is packed with information and pictures. I especially enjoyed reading about ancient amphibians. I had no idea that they grew so large in ancient times!

The Eyewitness books are made for kids, but I would say this book is a must-have for all amphibian fans, including adults. The photos are absolutely stunning, and the text is very good, even for adults. I love this book!

The D & K Amphibian book is an excellent book for any pre-teen with an interest in amphibians. Lots of excellent color photographs and narrative that will excite the child to learn more about these amazing animals.
This book was purchased for an 8-year-old and she was extremely excited when she received it two weeks ago. It is now well worn from the many times she has read from it, she even took it on a trip as her reading material.

I really enjoyed this book! It's a consistent organization, 2 pages, lots of pictures of amphibians with lots of facts on reproduction, survival, eating, climate ... its a nice clean design. The writing is generally for those 10 and over - the photos make it really accessible for children 7 or 8. Younger teens would also benefit from this book if they show an interest in amphibians. It is an excellent augmentation to school science projects. This has been an excellent tool for dad / daughter reading and discussion. This is $10 and, in my opinion, it is excellent photography, text selection, and facts. I recommend this book for elementary schools, natural museums, children with an interest in ecology and amphibians, and of course children of biological scientists whose parents are trying to engage their children. Its short enough, less than 100 pages. Most children need to read it over a few days. I recommend this book for purchase and I give it an "A-".
