At this it completely fails. In fact, my kids would use the phrase "epic fail".
I would have been better off with a plastic bag.
Why? The black wings to the left and right of the clear plastic are nowhere near water resistant.
The water comes right through. The results are a wet camera and wet hands, further making the camera wet.
In addition, you can see holes(!) in the stitching....also letting water in.
As far as the other downsides are concerns...there are others...but why discuss them if the basic function of this product is simply flawed.
The clear plastic foil that gets over the camera distorts the view you get from the LCD, making it impossible to accuratelty judge of the focus when using the live view.
It also covers the viewfinder, making it nearly impossible to use it accurately.
Add moisture to the mix and you can't really use the camera.
The camera is well protected and I would entrust it to this sleeve under quite heavy rain, but then you just can't take the pictures, so the camera would just be better and safer in your coat or your bag.
I did use it while tethered and on a tripod (the excelllllent Ravelli APGL4 New Professional 70" Tripod with Adjustable Pistol Grip Head and Heavy Duty Carry Bag) and there of course it works just fine although in that case you need a very long USB cable to reach the computer inside (or a very big umbrella).
I prefer my OP/TECH USA 9001142 Rainsleeve-Flash, 14 Inch Protective Cover for Camera and Flash. This is just for emergencies but the job is done and well done in a usable way. It looks silly but at least it works, whereas this one looks good but does not allow you to just shoot.
More protection would be provided if it were more vinyl than nylon material but it is a good investment and necessary purchase for me. I'll be using this cover in rain, snow and in windy/dusty environments.
In particular, wide angle lenses and lenses for a 1.6 crop camera don't work well.

Sorry but this is a terrible quality product...if it is designed as a rain cover one would expect it to be waterproof...but it is not. Read morePublished on August 20, 2013 by Texfiddler
