Great cover to protect the camera.

All in all this is a great product and it appears to be fairly well made.

The whole point of this product is to keep the rain off your camera when it rains.
At this it completely fails. In fact, my kids would use the phrase "epic fail".
I would have been better off with a plastic bag.

Why? The black wings to the left and right of the clear plastic are nowhere near water resistant.
The water comes right through. The results are a wet camera and wet hands, further making the camera wet.
In addition, you can see holes(!) in the stitching....also letting water in.

As far as the other downsides are concerns...there are others...but why discuss them if the basic function of this product is simply flawed.

The camera fits and is well protected.
The clear plastic foil that gets over the camera distorts the view you get from the LCD, making it impossible to accuratelty judge of the focus when using the live view.
It also covers the viewfinder, making it nearly impossible to use it accurately.
Add moisture to the mix and you can't really use the camera.

The camera is well protected and I would entrust it to this sleeve under quite heavy rain, but then you just can't take the pictures, so the camera would just be better and safer in your coat or your bag.
I did use it while tethered and on a tripod (the excelllllent Ravelli APGL4 New Professional 70" Tripod with Adjustable Pistol Grip Head and Heavy Duty Carry Bag) and there of course it works just fine although in that case you need a very long USB cable to reach the computer inside (or a very big umbrella).

I prefer my OP/TECH USA 9001142 Rainsleeve-Flash, 14 Inch Protective Cover for Camera and Flash. This is just for emergencies but the job is done and well done in a usable way. It looks silly but at least it works, whereas this one looks good but does not allow you to just shoot.

I really don't have anything good to say about this camera protector. I couldn't see through the see-through plastic. Some kind of film covered it. I tried every cleaner I could find and nothing removed it. It wasn't worth the cost to send it back.

Does exactly what it claims to do. I have owned this for about a year now and it serves me well. I use it when shooting waterfalls or near the ocean where there is water spraying at the camera. I wish I would have had it in a downpour in Nauvoo, Illinois a year ago, but it has served me quite well. I always have it in the camera bag just in case.

I consider this a great insurance policy. If you have one, it won't rain! This is a high-quality, well-made item. It fits loosely enough to allow great flexibility and excellent vision when shooting with it on. My camera has live view feature that allows me to see what I am going to shoot without looking through the viewfinder so this is a big advantage. I wear glasses and looking through the plastic to see through the view finder would be possible, but difficult. The unique zippers are great! water-resistant zippers are a plus. The portion of the rain cover that fits over the lens is actually a hood over the front. I found it easier to use without my regular lens hood. This is well worth the money and is built to be the last rain cover one would ever need to purchase.

I purposely went out during a heavy downpour to see how this protector would fare. The design allows for easy access to the camera and the controls. The stiff adjustable lens hood took some getting used to when focusing manually but after some adjustment, it wasn't a problem. Given the thin nature of the nylon black material I had some doubts as to how long, if at all, it would ward off the rain but after twenty minutes in direct heavy rain it held up quite well. Any longer and I would have been nervous so I will be investing in some waterproof spray for added protection. The clear vinyl is a nice gauge, waterproof, you can easily see the controls, LCD screen and through the viewfinder although it isn't as clear without the cover (to be expected). I shot hand held so I wasn't able to test the zippers with my tripod but they appear to be solid and no rain seeped through.

More protection would be provided if it were more vinyl than nylon material but it is a good investment and necessary purchase for me. I'll be using this cover in rain, snow and in windy/dusty environments.

Packs down and is so light I don't notice it in my pack one ounce. No problems with focusing from live-view or through viewfinder shooting. Easier than I imagined to use. Invaluable. For the price it's a doddle. Wish I'd had this in Madagascar.
