Great, even at the outset!,
This review is from: De Första Åren 1967-1979 (Audio CD)
That crystal clear voice that we got to know so well as part of ABBA, is there layered in innocense and sweetness, but with something that we rarely got to see in ABBA, Agnetha's own songwriting. One can definitely hear the maturing of her work from the first "Agnetha" album through to "Elva Kvinnor...", but each stage of her career has its own charm. The earlier works have a carefree sixties kind of lilt to them and then on the later albums, the music is crafted pop that could stand alongside the best of ABBA. It would be really interesting to hear Agnetha's songwriting nowadays, with all that life has offered her and put her through over the last 20 years.
For anyone that is a fan of ABBA, this is a must-buy.

I have been a fan of Agnetha Faltskog since I discovered ABBA. Her gifted voice has always fascinated and entertained me. I purchased this set because it contained her earlier solo works and I was extremely pleased. The songs may all be in Swedish, but her voice is so exceptional that the entertainment factor never diminishes. This product may seem a little expensive, but the six cds contained within make this purchase a great investment. If you love Agnetha's voice as much as I do, then this set is just what you are looking for.

I never thought I would ever get to own all 5 of Agnetha's original Swedish cd's + the other Cupol record's bonus tracks that makeup the 6th cd. Agnetha is so talented, if you are an Abba fan, you won't be disappointed if you buy this special box set. It is very historical.

At LAST,
By
This review is from: De Första Åren 1967-1979 (Audio CD)
At last a complete collection of Agnetha's studio albums plus rarities. This is no doubt in answer to the aggressively expensive collector's market no doubt noticed on ebay where people regularly bid on and pay for copies of these albums transfered to cds. Now Sony released them in tandum with the new Agnetha album, "My Coloring Book".
It may be more fun for a fan to desperately search to have the rare Ulvaeus produced album, pay a lot of money for it and find out it doesn't really have any really good material. There is something about the hunt of a collector that is thrilling; to discover what is unheared, unrecognized, especially something as sweet and pure as Agnetha's voice, as especially used in songs she wrote herself. There is something dead-in-the water, though which feels like the company released this material without any collaboration with Agentha or Michael Tretow or even Ulvaeus. No words to make us feel close to this offering, on a psychological level. We know it is product and the sleeve falls apart and the book is written without deep love for her voice. If we knew this product was made out of love we would feel better, I think. If there was the involvement clearly expressed, edited and presented as love for her, we would have know it and this could have been a celebration. Instead it is a library listing, a cataloguing of her albums. And to hear them is fine. Some of the albums have flaws, especially the material on the Ulveaus produced album, which features a duet with the two singers. The self-penned works are all excellent and were available before. The odd songs with tubas and horns on "Som Jag Ar" are nice to hear. But as true collectors, we discovered these before with our high priced vyniol copies found in Sweden or on the copied album onto CD. So, I say that the true collector would have already hunted most of these songs down. This is not an album for a novice; people who liked "Eyes of a Woman" would not have found this collection. It will have been the person who somehow heared "Dina Ogen", and was swept away by her voice, or the "En Song Och En Saga" or "....Gladje", which truly stun the heart. And these songs available on the Polar Records release of the Abba members' solo works, ignite the heart, and cause one to find more of these songs. Well, as we see, there aren't that many. Albums then were long and contained three great songs and a single or so and then filler. Or not. But it is great to have access to these songs. But it is a pity that we all knew these by hunting them down, firecely through the internet and foreign lands, via Tazmania, Britain, Sweden, and other places, to privately arrive at this collection now released by Sony. It is hard to view it in the hard, cold light. The albums don't always hold up. We wish that the love of fans could have helped make this collection; somehow, then, the heart of the issue, that golden voice could haqve been celebrated, by choosing excellent material, or framing it somehow with loving reminiscence with the musicians or producers of the time. Here, instead, we merely have a collection. A business release. At last, but I could say, at LEAST, in that we we could have had more; a truly accurate businessman could have offered a loving collection with a rich, rich history celebrating what we all sought as the collectors and fans of this work. A truly wise producer would have even enlisted the source of our love and respect, Agentha herself, who could have offered insight into the stories behind these songs, memories, a context for this fogotten picture which we have finally had the literal chance to see, but, are still left with our hearts full of love and no real release of this feeling; no conection. Her power is still for the collector to feel. Too bad this project could not have celebrated and made a real party for the release and presentation of this limited and time-long ago collection of songs by a sincere and clear-voiced, sometimes-author of songs which caused us to search the world formore material. Lets have more later which addresses this.

An expensive, but historical gem,

I love Agnetha's English albums but was reluctant to purchase this Swedish set. Without understanding the words, I didn't think it was possible to achieve any significant enjoyment from it. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. Her voice is so smooth and beautiful, you won't care that you don't know what she's singing about. The melodies are unique and captivating. Agnetha is arguably the greatest female pop vocalist ever, and this set is a beautiful and historical collection of her early material. It is an expensive, but worthwhile treat.

The best ABBA-member box set,
By Curmudgeon "grantc" (West Australia) - See all my reviews

Other reviewers have lamented how little - ie, nothing - Agnetha had to do with this release; in fact, she doesn't even receive a thank you in the credits! Nevertheless, the large size accompanying booklet is fairly exhaustively detailed with lots of interesting info and mostly postage stamp-size photos (with a few pages of choice larger photos), and all the tracks have been beautifully remastered. The 'box' is fairly flimsy cardboard, so needs careful handling, but again, the discs and reproduction album covers are excellent quality. If you're a real ABBA fan this is a no-brainer: it's a complete picture of Agnetha's pre- and concurrent-ABBA recording period before her transition to blander English pop climes. Her voice is one of pop's most magical.

This 6 disc set is a must for anyone who truly loves the voice of Agnetha Faltskog. Even average melodies are a pleasure to listen to, with Agnethas stunning voice. I was able to acquire 3 of these albums on record in the mid eighties, but it is a great pleasure to own them on cd and this is an excellent opportunity for some fans to hear these tracks for the first time . The packaging is a special treat , with a beautiful layout, photos, and a very well presented booklet, with photos I had never before seen. This was not a cheap purchase, and I am not known for making box set purchases, however, I believe this is very good value and a great pleasure to own!

Despite the fact that this is all in the Swedish language, one can never tire of listening to Agnetha Faltskog sing. This box set is perfect if one is going on a long road trip. The hours just fly by, and one will arrive at his/her destination in a cheerful mood. Now, if only her early German language songs were available on a CD....
