Book Description

At War January 18, 2009

The F-15A entered service in 1972 as "the first dedicated USAF air superiority fighter since the F-86 Sabre." More than three decades and myriad models and variants later, the F-15 is still the U.S. Air Force's premiere air superiority weapon, a veteran of U.S. conflicts as recent as Operation Desert Storm and presently serving in the air forces of U.S. allies around the world.  F-15 Eagle at War, featuring the spectacular aerial photography of author Tyson V. Rininger, follows the design, manufacture, and performance of the F-15 from its first appearance through its service in various Cold War and contemporary conflicts.  The book profiles each model and upgrade in technology up to the F-15C, D, and E models that served in the Persian Gulf, where they claimed 36 of 39 Air Force victories in air-to-air combat.  It is a fitting and thoroughly fascinating tribute to this celebrated aircraft and icon of the U.S. Air Force.

"This book details the F-15's history, from the Cold War to the Middle East, with spectacular photography, and covers the aircraft's design, manufacture and variants."

The Aptos Times
“Filled with excellent color and black and white photos, this is the story of a combat aircraft that changed air supremacy since it was introduced in the 1970s. Covering the design and manufacture of the airframe, as well as its service in various conflicts and its myriad models and variants, this pictorial history pays tribute to the F-15 and its unparalleled success in combat.

“With its superb aerodynamics, unbelievable acceleration, advanced avionics and aerial weaponry, the F-15 was a formidable aerial adversary during the height of the Cold War. Those interested in military aircraft or aviation history will find this an engrossing read and this is a book they'll definitely wish to add to their libraries.”

More About the Author

Thanks for checking out my books. While I'm fortunate to have become an author, my foremost job is that of an aviation photographer. I've always felt more comfortable with a camera in my hands than a pen. My writing experience began in high school working on the school paper. College ensued and my fear of writing lengthy stories subsided. MotorBooks, Intl. contracted me initially for calendars and eventually moved on to more complex historical books, my first being "Red Flag: Air Combat for the 21st Century" followed by "F-15 Eagle at War". Combining my love of photography with the necessity of writing and sharing the finished product is no doubt difficult through publishing houses, therefore portfolios and smaller works have found there way to market through print-on-demand houses like Blurb. When not writing or photographing aircraft, I can be found on the wing of a trusty biplane named 'Ol Smokey, performing as a wing-walker at air shows with pilot, Walt Pierce and fellow wing-walking partner, Jenny Forsythe for American Barnstormers & the Double Trouble Wing Walking Team.
