Absolutely in my top 5 for favorite non-fiction books,
By K. Salinger "MBA, RN, RRT, sFNP" (Bay Area, California) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: F**K It (Paperback)
I initially ordered this book from Amazon.co.uk because it hadn't been released in the U.S. yet. There had been a great write up on it in one of my magazines and I was very intrigued. Unfortunately it sat on the shelf for awhile before I finally got around to reading it and I wish now I had read it right away!
This is absolutely one of my very favorite philosophy/lifestyle books. If you're stressed, depressed, apathetic or just generally not pleased with life you must read this book! I read this during a time of excessive occupational related stress. It helped me realize that I was wasting way too much of my energy with worry and that there really was no reason for it. By reading this book I picked up the "F**k it" attitude, let my stress and worry just drop away, and I felt amazingly better. Having a "F**k it" attitude is the core of this book and it is incredibly freeing. The title pretty much sums up the main concept of the book, but the book is worth reading in it's entirety as it helps you see areas that you should just say "F**k it" to that you might not think about w/o a little prompting. It helps you realize that there are a multitude of areas in your life where you are essentially a slave to expectations....that of your work, society, your family, even your own expectations, and how everything can be so much easier for you if you just take on a "F**k it - who cares?" type attitude to some extent. You may think "Oh, I could never do that or else this or that terrible thing would happen as a consequence..." Actually though, your world will still go on despite your attitude change, it wont come crashing down. The key difference will be that you will be less stressed and happier all around. (and your new attitude may just make you take on a lifestyle change that will make you even more happy and joyful!) I highly, highly recommend this book to just about everyone who needs a little something to make life more relaxed and satisfying.

For anyone who is turned of by new age spiritualism or metaphysics,
By
This review is from: F**K It (Paperback)
This is a great book, especially if you find yourself with a partner/friend/spouse who is turned off by your interesting in metaphysics, or new-age, "airy-fairy" spirituality. Simply put, this book teaches the releasing of resistance, which is the key to letting everything into your life that you have asked for. If channeling or preaching just isn't someone's thing, then give them a copy of this book.

F**k it: The Ultimate Spiritual Way,
By
This review is from: F**K It (Paperback)
I love this book! it brings to the forefront how we humans make everything overly important causing us to live lives of stress and pressure. When you understand the philosophy of "F**k It", you can begin to break the habitual patterns of worry that plague us all. And that WE are in charge of our own lives. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent Book!,
By Pharmacy Technician (Kansas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: F**K It (Paperback)
This book is amazing! I have always had quite the "F**k it" attitude, but this book helped me to see other areas in my life, that were causing too much stress. After reading this book, I was able to say "F**k it" to other stressors in my life, and in return feel more relaxed and joyful! This book does not teach irresponsibility. It simply encourages you to take that unnessecary stress out of your life! A++++++++

Great Philosophy, Unpolished Writing,
By
This review is from: F**k It: The Ultimate Spiritual Way (Paperback)
F**k It / 978-1-401-92759-2
I really like the philosophy behind this book - the idea contained herein is that we need to stop stressing so much over everything ("Am I good enough? Holy enough? Peaceful enough? Loving enough? A good enough spouse, child, parent, employee, person, citizen?") and just say "f--- it" to things that we can't control (and even quite a few things that we can) and learn to relax a little. It's the Total Perspective Vortex of books - you're not important, and you never will be important (not on a universal scale, at any rate), so you might as well live the best life you can and not stress over the details. And while all that philosophy CAN be explained in just those few sentences (or even just in the title!), there's a lot more here to delve into, in terms of HOW to actually live that philosophy and be happy. It's a philosophy I can get behind; a philosophy that I would *love* to see spread and adapted and adopted all over the world. So this book gets an A+ from me on the philosophy angle, hands down. Having said that, I feel like readers should be warned that the writing here could use the touch of a good editor. The book is written in a very stream-of-consciousness style, almost a mad dash of "hey-I-just-figured-out-this-whole-secret-to-happiness" writing that leaps all over the place. The chapters provide some loose organization, but overall the writing just isn't very tight - even though it is deep, clever, and amusing at times. I almost can't help but feel that this writing style was a conscious decision - even the foreword lampshades the fact that a true "f--- it" philosophy follower can best express their dedication to the philosophy by churning out a slap-dash foreword! (Quite amusing actually.) So I almost feel churlish pointing it out at all, except that I'm concerned that some readers may be put off slightly by the looseness of the writing, no matter how much I might agree with the fundamental philosophy contained herein. I suspect, though, that this will be a personal preference that depends on the reader. I do most definitely recommend this book if you don't mind a bit of tongue-in-cheek consciousness streaming mixed in with your philosophy. Note: I received a free Advance Review Copy of this book from the publishing company via NetGalley. ~ Ana Mardoll

To the author's credit, he does say somewhere in the book that all you really need to know is the title. That is true. I think anyone can infer what the book is about, and pretty much every word of advice in it has been uttered or heard by each of us, usually over a six pack with a buddy.
The redeeming quality, what makes the book worth the $15, would be the humor. Unfortunately,as you can tell by the way I spell humor, I'm American, and much of the humorous allegorical metaphors allude to something British, and while usually I get the meaning, it's just not funny. Maybe a good read across the pond, a nice distraction while your sitting on the loo, but for my American money, it's not worth a crap.

It's simply a fast way to make peace with what's happening instead of worrying about what "should" be happening. Helpful for boldly dropping worthless ideas of sin, guilt, free will, etc. which create the ego illusion in the first place.

A Taoism Primer,
By Victoria Craven (Wilmington, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: F**k It: The Ultimate Spiritual Way (Paperback)
The tag for this book could be: Taoism Made Easy or Eastern Philosophy for the Cynic. John C. Parkin lays down some 'Attachments are excess baggage' for those of us who probably use the F word too much. Parkin covers energy fields and breathing, as well as a healthy dose of Buddhism, and makes it accessible and entertaining. Spend an afternoon with this book and it will change the way you view and react to your world for the better.

Some interesting ideas,
This review is from: F**k It: The Ultimate Spiritual Way (Paperback)
If you look past the novelty of the title, you'll find this book has some interesting things to say. First published in the United Kingdom, F**k It is a Western perspective on Eastern philosophy. Parkin breaks down some of the basic tenets of Buddhism and Taoism, such as self-acceptance, letting go, and living in the moment. According to him, this kind of spirituality can be attained by simply saying "f**k it" to your problems.
"F**k it is a most profane way of saying the most profound thing: that when we relax and give in to the simple flow of life, we will experience the ultimate freedom." In this book Parkin advises his readers to say "f**k it" to dieting, relationships, illness, money, jobs, parenting, plans and goals, and self-control and discipline. According to him if we can learn to stop trying to control these things we will ultimately end up happier and less depressed if things don't go our way. I've never been 100% sold on the idea of self-help books. To quote the late great George Carlin, "If you did it yourself, you wouldn't need help. If you buy a book to help you, that's not self-help, that's help!" But Parkin's humorous spin on Eastern spirituality makes this book an interesting read. I agree with some of the ideas outlined in the book, but Parkin's advice wouldn't necessarily work for everyone. For example he asserts that if we say "f**k it" to controling our diet we'll be more likely to eat healthier food because we feel like it, and thus end up losing weight. For someone with a food addiction this is easier said than done. F**k It is a unique book that's worth checking out, but you may want to take it with a grain of salt. If offers some interesting ideas and some good basic principles, but don't expect it to relate to every aspect of your own life.

i like this book. it has numerous strategies to cope with life better. main thing is to say *f it* in order to reduce your attachment to things. after childhood we become conditioned to become attached to many things like health, relationships, money, life purpose . say *f it* and be free from all things. less attachment less stress. this is what all the spiritual teachers say
author's writing style is very humorous and from his own experiences. |
