Now this edition of FEAR I love.,

This edition of FEAR strikes gold (pun intended). Not only does it include the Director's Edtition and Extraction Point but the latest patch (1.08) which itself is 600MB. That means when you install the game (which is one a single DVD-ROM) you're set.
The gameplay hasn't changed but if you don't have FEAR or have never played it then you'll want to get this. The system requirements are somewhat misleading though; you'll definitely want well above the minimum to see the game in all its glory. At lower resolution it's just not that pretty. I'm running it on a Pentium 4 3.2GHz Prescott CPU with a GeForce 7800 GS AGP video card and 2GB of system RAM. You'll definitely want 2GB of system memory in addition to a graphics card that's equipped with 256MB of memory also. The supernatural theme gives the game a rather creepy atmosphere that's heightened by some of the tight locations and intense gunfights. Lest I forget all this goodness also requires roughly 8GB of hard drive space (yes I know it's a lot) but if you're into first-person shooter then FEAR: Gold Edition will be a welcome addtion to your game library.

One of the best FPS ever!,

This is the best FPS I played ever!
Smart enemies, large maps, powerful weapons, lots of surprises. Very dynamic and sometimes scary. Good video and audio effects. You can play this game even on the old computer (though not on the high settings, of course). But to play it on high, you need at least 2GB RAM and dedicated video card (like nVidia GeForce 7600 / ATI Radeon x1600 or higher). Higher means both digits - the first and the second, like nVidia 8600 / ATI 2600 - not higher first and lower second digit. For example, nVidia 8400 IS NOT higher - it is much slower! The first digit designates the generation and the second designates speed and power. So, something like nVidia 9200 means that this card is the latest 9th generation, but is very slow. You want as high second digit as possible. First time, I played FEAR on my HP dv5000 laptop (Windows XP Home, Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66 GHz, 1GB RAM, Intel GMA 950 Graphics) in 2006. It ran smoothly on low settings. I loved it so much, I bough a new laptop to play it on high settings. Now, I play it (never get tired of it) on HP nx9420 mobile workstation: Windows XP Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 2.13 GHz, 4GB RAM, 256 GDDR3 NVIDIA Quadro NVS 510M (professional workstation variant of GeForce 7900GTX). It runs on the highest settings and never falls below 25-30 fps. I bought FEAR Gold here, on Amazon, two years ago. It was delivered fast and in good condition. It consists of the original FEAR game and the Extraction Point expansion pack. Both work flawlessly and provide countless hours of entertainment. Also, I like the fact that I do not have to change something like 4-5 CDs to install the game - both, FEAR and Extraction Point, are recorded on 1 DVD disk. But make sure your computer can play DVDs.

average! you just run, jump, and shoot. the weapons are cool, and the enemies are smart. it's a paint to play because it's so slow paced. this game is targeted towards cautious slow paced players who like to throw a lot of grenades. im not that player. i like to get straight intothe action and start bashing everyone's heads in with melee attacks and throw grenades for surprise attacks. the game does have a scary sense to it and every time you play, you will get a surreal -wtf is happening right now?- sense. this game is overhyped. fear expansions are overhyped as well. all i play are FPS games. this game is just average. it has the basic point and shoot elements with a set of guns you can lug around. that's pretty much it.

Very Good Shooter,

Fear is definitely the next generation in shooters. Very entertaining. The detailed graphics are just about the best ever. The AI is off the scale. At one point an enemy jumped through a first floor window to protect himself, then came up through the window shooting. Creepy at times - but not quite like Doom or Quake 4. It was a bit redundant -- most of the game involved walking around hallways. Quite a bit of gore -- I could never let the shotgun go -- I loved the damage it did. The slo-mo effect is kinda cool -- very handy when in a fire fight. I had it set as my right mouse button and used it quite often.
The expansion pack, Extraction Point was even better. A few additional cool weapons, and a bit more diversity with the levels -- but much more creepy and gory -- probably the most gore I have ever seen in a game (not like there's anything wrong with that). Nothing quite like walking around a bloody, dark morgue. I highly recommend this game.

Arguably one of my favorite FPS games ever. Great storyline, very riveting. I consider myself somewhat jaded to horror movies and games, so when I run across run that still makes me jump out of my skin, while being fun at the same time, I have to give it props. My girlfriend's a little bit more skittish and refuses to play it with the lights off like I do. I love this kind of game in the dark, gets you more into the ambiance. She's just started playing it recently and I love hearing the, "HOLY ****, WTF was that?!" over my shoulder.
As for the combat, it's pretty standard stuff, guns, grenades, things that go boom. I didn't find it all that difficult or complicated, don't expect a next-generation hardcore FPS w/fancy new weapons or insanely smart A.I. It's good enough in those aspects, but get it more for the story and environment. Kind of like Half-Life 1 and 2. I think a good storyline is where it's at, but if you disagree and you need your shiny weapons and massive battles, this might not be for you.

F.E.A.R has great graphics and a great chilling atmosphere. The ability to interact with almost all objects (turning tables over, etc) and the slo-mo mode is a step foward for FPS. I highly recommend!!!

Some thrills, some chills, some spooky affects but all in all nothing to write home about. Guess it sold enough copies to warrant a soon to be released sequel BUT I won't be signing up anytime soon. Still this game does provide some marvelous weapons, the Ice Gun is one of my faves as are the landmines and turrets, but other than that, it's been there... done that.

The game graphics and physics are amazing. It's very real, so real in fact that that's the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. The online game is all fun, and playing against the computer can get downright scary. I recommend this game to any fan of first person shooters...it's the best I have seen yet.
