4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, this is Yo La Tengo
An inside-joke fictional band becomes real many years later. See Wikipedia and YouTube. Not a bad effort, but probably more for YLT completists. Only 31 minutes long.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but pretty unessential
I appreciate Yo La Tengo taking time out to have a little fun, but I can't see myself listening to this more than a couple of times. This is basically just them running through eleven cover songs in a single take with no overdubs or anything. Decent concept, but the novelty gets old pretty fast for me. Plus, they already did this sort of thing with Murdering the Classics...

5.0 out of 5 stars They are great at stuff like this, November 23, 2009

I love Yo La Tengo, and was lucky enough to see them live in Brooklyn at a holiday show sponsored by The Onion a few years ago, and their set wound up being an all covers show - everything from Black Flag to the Bay City Rollers. The band was in great form that night and show rocked. So when they focus on doing all covers, such as here, or on their fundraiser performances on the great free form radio station WFMU, I have come to expect that Yo La Tengo are looking to have a fun time, to rock out, and to pay tribute to the musicians whom they like. That's what's going on here, and the raw sound of this record is part of the tribute. In short, they are great at doing stuff like this.
