Classic funk ode to a gold digging ex-flame.
Cee Lo makes the anger of a jilted lover sizzle with his incredible range.
Even with a couple of well placed asterisks, I dread the radio edit and what it will do to the flow of the song. ("My Beep," the sequel?)

Katy Perry, move over. The song of the summer/year has arrived. Cee Lo Green is a genius. Soul to spare. Don't let the title make you think that this a novelty song as it's anything but. I can't wait for the full CD to drop in October.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny...sweet....edgy....all wrapped up in a dangerously singable Motown homage, September 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: F**k You [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
I first learned of this song in an online Springsteen forum; not necessarily the place you'd expect to find folks hip to Cee Lo Green. I was slightly aware of his work with in his Gnarls Barkley collaboration (with Danger Mouse).

"[...] You" is the best combination of fun and artistry I've heard with such provocative lyrics since Harry Nilsson, Frank Zappa or Warren Zevon.

In this song, Cee Lo Green spins the tale of a jilted guy responding to his lost love and her new man. Beyond the title refrain and a handful additional hot button words, Green adds additional lyrics that are funny, sweet and dangerously singable. Think of Smokey Robinson or The Four Tops with a case of serious attitude in an homage to Motown classic hits.

Will this song be for everybody? Clearly not. But if you have a sense of humor and reverence for strong musical influences, you'll find yourself listening to this song over and over (and be sure to find Green's two videos online...one lays out all the lyrics, and the other is set in a diner where I know you'll want to order the special!).

4.0 out of 5 stars Barkley's Game, October 17, 2010
This review is from: F**k You [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
For Cee-Lo Green, the past couple of years he has shown a drive on his work with Gnarls Barkley, and with hits like Smiley Faces & the smash hit Crazy which still remains a guilty pleasure. But with the dissapointing The Odd COuple record, the duo parted ways, and Cee-Lo moved to a solo game. He showed that with his solo debut single, F*** You. The song brings in a vibe that really is catchy, just like his other hit songs worked a few years back. I really like the song, because Cee-Lo makes a 50's diddy sound, really stand out nicely. I really hope that his solo debut The Lady Killer, which is coming soon, can actually work just as catchy is F*** You did. Don't say F*** You, say Love You Cee-Lo.

I know why they changed it. I just hate that they had to do so to be commercially viable. I understand. But I like this version better

Insanely catchy. Old time Motown/soul feel. Refrain anchored by a great swirling organ line. Classic use of female chorus..."Ain't that some s***". Universal theme to which just about any guy can relate.

5.0 out of 5 stars FITTING SONG THAT MANY GUYS CAN RELATE TO, January 19, 2011

This review is from: F**k You [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
I have to say that this track is my fave song out at this time.
because I can relate to every word sung on the chorus and each bar in each verse.
Musical content is a back in the day, somewhat uptempo sound, takes some getting used to.
but I have to give it 5 out of 5, because its something different from every other song out right now.
