Yep....I completely "second" all that was said in the first review by Benjamin Dover. This CD, the movie and the music is a gem! The booklet that comes with it is also a joy. It truly baffles me, as to why the film did not do well, when first released...AND also incredible, is the fact that it took SO MANY YEARS for this entire score to be released! ?!?!?! It's a wonderful film and one of George Pal's and Tony Randall's best! Leigh Harline, the composer, in his earlier years, composed music for the Walt Disney studios, (He was the composer of the music for Disney's Pinocchio, as well as for the Silly Symphonies) so by the time Dr. Lao came along (in 1964), he was well seasoned in creating alot of character and "upbeat" enhancing qualities with his music. The title theme for this film is very catchy, memorable and haunting, once heard.... I could go on and on about how great this CD and the movie is, but I too, highly recommend just buying this and the movie, and discovering all the fun for yourselves!

This is one of the best movie soundtracks I have ever purchased. I loved the movie so much when I was a kid that I bought the DVD when it was first released. Actually, I bought the VHS first. I was totally stoked when I found out that FSM had released the entire score on CD - so stoked that I bought fifteen (15) copies to give out as Christmas presents to friends and relatives.

In my opinion, Leigh Harline is a musical genius. The way he composed and conducted this score was absolutely phenomenal. The variation of musical instruments used in this score is what makes it so interesting and entertaining to listen to. The way Harline combines Eastern music with Western music is awesome. You get Chinese sounds combined with Old West sounds. Track eight (8) is completely different from the rest of the soundtrack. It is "Pan's Dance", with the flute emulating the Satyr; Pan's flute. That's from the scene where young Barbara Eden gets all hot and bothered when the Satyr dances around her while playing his pan flute. A lot of the tracks are of the same tune but the variations in instruments used in each version are what make them so interesting to listen to. Track nineteen (19) is awesome because it is composed of organ pipe music to give it that "circus" effect for the circus scene. The intertwining of the "Pan's Dance" music throughout the CD is nice too. The Bagpipes in track twenty three (23) are great and I like the fact that they made it an abridged version instead of using the entire track that was used in the film since it would have been way too long to listen to if they hadn't shorten it. The bagpipes were played during the scene in the movie where Dr. Lao was trying to shrink the seven (7) headed monster with his Rain Making Machine.
