Warm and Fuzzy!, January 27, 2012
This review is from: FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOES? A Malcolm Black Novel (Kindle Edition)
Yes! That's how I felt in the last few pages of this book, because it warmed me up. Like in one of my daughter's kiddie TV shows Ni Hao Kailan, this book made my heart feel super happy.
Mrs Menchan has done it once again. You wonder where else she can take this story and once again, she takes it places you never imagined.
I'll have to do a few quotes here:
"Cinnamon Bun, you are a force. All the men who ever loved you still love you and every woman who loves them is mad about it."
I definitely identify with that! Nuf said.
"Sho is, you are a man and you have a veddy nice dingo."
Can I say Angelia Vernon Menchan shocked me nicely with this one. She pushed the limits with conversation, life experiences and changes, etc.
"Ma'am, I am a Christian, thus I say Merry Christmas. I have no issue with any other religion. As a very young man I studied Islam, for many years after that I didn't define my religious beliefs at all. In the last couple of years I gave my life to God and am vowing my Christian faith."
Speaks for itself.
'"I'm sure you will be an awesome mother. Are you planning insemination or natural?"
Malcolm snorted and the young people remembered they weren't alone.
"If natural are you vounteering?"'
Bwahahahaha!
Now for one of my favorite parts of the book where she shocked me again:
Without thinking Cinnamon picked up her bottle of water and splashed his face with it before walking out. Looking up, she realized (blank) had just been doused with water by his angry (blank) and that cell phone cameras were flashing. Damn.
I tell ya, like I said before when I first started reading Angelia's novels, Cinnamon is the woman we all wish we could be but don't have to nerve to be at all times, though some of us manage it at times. Teehee.
My heart was literally leaping for joy in the last few pages of the book at how it all unfolded beautifully.

Live and Let Live, January 10, 2012
This review is from: FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOES? A Malcolm Black Novel (Kindle Edition)
The Blacks are back. As always there are people in their lives that would like nothing but to stir up the pot of gossip and rumors to try to destroy or discredit Malcolm and Cinnamon Black. Malcolm is now the Mayor of Center City; his agenda is to make sure that most, if not all, the students coming out of high school have more than one choice to better their futures. However, as always, there are some people who do not cosign with what Cinnamon and Malcolm are all about. Family, Friends, Foe? A Malcolm Black Book by Angelia Vernon Menchan has the haters creeping in the background too afraid to state the issues in person, but will go behind their backs to try to make them look bad.
Malcolm and Cinnamon should be relaxing and enjoying their new life together. However, every time they turn around someone is bringing headlines to their door. They have people claiming sexual harassment and past relationships with pedophiles. If they knew anything about the Blacks, they would not be bothered with all these shenanigans. As the citizens of Center City get to know Malcolm better, they begin to realize he is an honorable man, who does not let color get in the way. One of the things Cinnamon and Malcolm have in common is their love for helping people and giving them a way to better their lives and touch others as well. It seems like they are always paying it forward. When the issue really is not theirs, the Blacks try to offer advice when it is needed and stay out of everything else unless asked.
Aura, Cinnamon's daughter with her first husband, William Brown, is a skilled lawyer. However, she is plagued with confusion of whom she is attracted to, men or women. As time goes by Aura and Malcolm's son, Malcolm II aka MII, is forming a bond that is deeper than a sensual connection. Cinnamon and Malcolm do not want Aura or MII to be hurt by the other, but the Blacks try their best to stay out of their business. It all has to work out. Will Aura finally have a clear understanding of her feelings? Or will she continue to be confused and ruin not only her life, but also the lives of her mother and stepfather along with MII?
Mrs. Menchan continues to write stories that are not recycled ideas; filled with messages, but not overbearing to the mind. Family, Friends, Foe? A Malcolm Black Book submerges us further into the lives of the citizens of Center City. There are people who genuinely care about the Blacks and those who are so jealous they are blinded to the right thing to do. That is the natural behavior of humans but that is what made the characters seem so real. The way the book ended makes me predict that I will be reading more about these characters. I cannot wait for that one. I recommend this book to readers familiar with Mrs. Menchan's style of keeping it real, and to those looking for altruistic character-based stories.
