Would have been excellent if not for the non-stick pans,

I had the regular pans for years now, and they work wonderfully. They are very thick, heat evenly, and don't easily burn food. They are very sturdy and I expect them to last for ages. I would recommend them to anybody. Then I got this set as a gift for my mom, and she gave me the non-stick pans in the set because she doesn't use them. These pans are a mess - in the first package we got, both the nonstick pans had scratches on them. We exchanged it, and the second package had a nonstick pan with scratches on it. Because of lack of time, we kept the package, because I knew my mom would find the regular pans useful (and she did). But the nonstick one kept getting more and more scratches, even though I think I was using it pretty gently. Then one day, I got absent minded, and let some food burn a little in it. In another pan, it wouldn't have been catastrophic (I have had cheap, flimsy pans with burnt food clean up like new), but with the Farberware one, it was completely destroyed. I soaked and cleaned, soaked and cleaned for three days, then threw it away. I love Farberware, but not their non-stick pots.

Farberware classic is great -- an inexpensive yet equally functional alternative to the very expensive pots & pans. Note: recently Farberware reduced its quality, in that older Farberware pots & pans had their thick aluminum base completely encased within a stainless steel shell. The newer pots & pans have the aluminum base attached to the bottom, but not encased within a stainless steel bottom. So, their quality is less than it was; most people who "grew up with Farberware" may not realize this. Farberware used to hold the patent on the technique of having the aluminum base CURVE up the side of the pan -- they no longer do this, and are the same as many other manufacturers.

I agree with another reviewer - the non stick skillets are of little value. But we have had some sizes of the aluminum bottom stainless pieces for many years and they are the best cookware for the money. Even better than this set are the Heritage sets with glass lids. The pots are the same, including stainless over the aluminum bottoms. We gave a set of the Heritage to our daughter when she got married. Then when our son moved out we could not find Heritage any where and we got him this set. One year ago we found the Heritage again and bought a set for ourselves. Definitely recommend them to anyone.
