Finely woven details, August 25, 2001
This review is from: FAST LANE ON A DIRT ROAD: A Contemporary History of Vermont (Paperback)
This book is a thoroughly enjoyable account of the last 60 years of Vermont's history. Sherman does a masterful job of weaving in details from all aspects of life. He even makes politics interesting- -something very few writers do well. His facts are supported and personalized by countless interviews with the people who made history.

A Great Read., June 10, 2009
This review is from: FAST LANE ON A DIRT ROAD: A Contemporary History of Vermont (Paperback)
This is a great read. Having lived through much of the era that Sherman writes about I can say he hits it right on the head. His insight into everyday living in Vermont is phenomenal and oh so accurate. His descriptions of people and places is absolutely astounding in their accuracy; and time and again he describes what is truly Vermont and what was happening to Vermont. I would certainly recommend that anyone interested in the history of Vermont from the early 20's on read this book. I agree that perhaps we don't want to take back Vermont, but then I'm not sure just how much of it we want to let go. Anyway, I highly recommend this book to any young aspiring Vermont politician, or to anyone for that matter.
