Very nice small and light-weight HDTV/DVD with built-in QAM. I was not sure about the QAM which allows you to get HD signals without a cable box, but got a quick email answer from the mfgr./distributor confirming its presence. I sit 7-8' away and supposedly should get a 27-32" HDTV. Initially, other than some tinniness to the sound, I was quite pleased with the viewing experience: the picture is clear, bright, with text easy to read. I saw somewhere that it has a high-end Samsung LCD, which I understand is a plus.
Regarding the SOUND: By moving the balance from left to right and back again, I found that the tinny sound was due to a defective right speaker. I emailed the mfgr. and was immediately issued a pre-paid Fed-Ex label to return the TV. I received a replacement in about a week. The sound is now PERFECT: even Surround Sound ain't half bad, something you just wouldn't expect from a small TV. The volume is adequate more than adequate...in fact, when turned up I can hear it from 2 rooms away. Now THAT is power.
There are plenty of (easy) user adjustments, & various connectors (on the left side/back). The DVD player is on the right side/back.
The manual is simple; the remote is fairly intuitive; the unit is loaded with pre-sets and adjustments: brightness, sharpness, contrast, etc. You can amuse yourself for hours with just the buttons on the remote. ;) The most fun is the ZOOM located right on the remote: with it you can easily change the aspect ratio from normal to wide, etc...a clever idea that lets you get the picture just the way you find most comfortable, especially since we are still getting both analog and digital signals which come in a different ratio. Under "menu," again there are many choices: ex., there's one for "normal," "warm" or "cool," which changes the picture colors' warmth just a bit.
This TV is light & thin, easy to move (I really didn't want a 30-40 lb. monster). It can slip in almost anywhere without worrying about angle of view or light interference. It came quickly with very good, easy to re-do packaging. The only thing I would have loved to see is the DVD be a DVD/R. But I guess ya can't have it all. ;)
Oh, and I might add: I use a splitter from just the cable with no box. However, my splitter is powered. I have 4 things plugged into it. The FAVI is connected by a co-axial cable stated to be shielded and good for HDTV. It works fine. As a test, I had 3 TV's and the internet running at the same time with no loss anywhere. A powered splitter is essential for more than one TV off cable without a box...of ANY make or model.
I used to work with digital imaging in medicine. I have more than a "good eye," and am EXTREMELY PLEASED with the FAVI's handling of both analog and digital signals. I highly recommend this quality, light-weight, easy to handle, fun HDTV, with QAM, and excellent support! Although I had a problem with the sound at first, the problem was quickly solved by the very pleasant mfgr/disributor.
