FAVI PJM-1000 Mini Projector Review,
By
This review is from: FAVI Mini Pocket Projector, PJM-1000 - Mini tripod incuded. (Electronics)
FAVI PJM-1000 Mini Projector Review: This projector came to us well packaged directly from FAVI in a generic cardboard box with an attractive colored box inside. Inside the color box we removed a projector, Lithium Ion battery, extra long VGA Cable, Composite/RCA Video Cable, RCA Adapter, User Guide, AC Adapter/Batter Charger, and a flexible stand. The AC adapter comes with international plug adapters for use abroad. FAVI seems to have made this projector with the traveler in mind so we thought it fitting to demo the PJM-1000 while on a commercial airplane flight. RATINGS: -USER GUIDE: 9/10. The user guide made setup easy with product visuals and simple quick-start steps. -SETUP 9/10. User friendly device, very plug and play. -DISPLAY: 8/10. Good colors and image quality. We would have liked to see a higher native resolution. -BRIGHTNESS: 6/10. When compared to other pico projectors its brightness performed exceedingly well. Although when we compared its brightness to larger standard sized projectors it performed poorly. We recommend a dimly lit environment if attempting to project a picture larger than 40 inches. -INPUTS: 7/10. On the rear of the unit there is a VGA input for connecting to a laptop/PC and video input for connecting to a standard video composite cable. On the side of the unit there is a DC-in to connect the AC power adapter. We were disappointed there was no HDMI input. -ACCESSORIES: 9/10. Included in the box were all essential cables to connect to a laptop/PC and DVD/Video source. We were able to connect to an iPod touch and an iphone with cables that were not included. We found the extra long VGA cable and international AC Adapter to be a plus. -VALUE: 9/10. We found it to be one of the lowest priced pico projectors on the market. Excellent value with its overall performance and low price point. -OVERALL: 8/10. Recommended. We highly recommend the PJM-1000 to any business professional or to anyone who travels.

The compact size of the projector is its most attractive quality, such that it can be easily taken anywhere. Plus, it's very much plug 'n play (if you have a Macbook with a mini DVI port, you'll need a VGA adaptor). The downside is, as previous reviews have noted, the picture quality (the size of projection, as well as the brightness and clarity of images are limited compared to traditional multimedia projectors). It can also cause some temporary changes in the settings of the computer it's hooked into (desktop images on my macbook get enlarged while the projector's in use). So, if you're looking for picture quality, go with a traditional projector, but if you're looking for something "handy" (as opposed to something "bulky") with which to project images on pretty much any pale, blank surface within range, try this one.

I received this projector as a gift for Christmas and couldn't believe how such a small package can pack so much in. It's been a life saver in multiple work situations when we didn't have a projector. Everyone is impressed when I pull this gem out of my laptop bag and project a perfect image on the wall. Easy set-up and great picture quality. The little tripod is a great addition. With an A/V composite cable from Apple, you can use this projector to display images from the iPhone. Presentation in your pocket!

I love this projector. It does require a very dark environment [night time] due the minimal 11 lumen light. I watch movies on the 100" diagonal projection and absolutely love it. Solid build and no extra features that I don't need. Hooks right up to MacBook and works right out of the box.Edit.. I use this now with my ipod touch 3.. ITS AWESOME!! I took it outside on a dark night (i live in the country) and projected a movie onto the SIDE OF MY HOUSE!! Seems you can go as big as you want with this GREAT projector.

I bought this product and was expecting something not too powerful. it met my expectation. Just to let the next buyer know that this product works well in the dark. Dont have high ecpectation of making it work in a well lit room. The product is satisfactory and very good compared to the other similar mini projectors in the market. I thought of exchanging it for a Rio V3 but guess what I bought a Rio V3 but could not part with the mini.Another thing to mention is about the Favi as a company - Excellent customer support. They respond to requests in real time. You send them a message and before you realize they respond. They are very helpful and keep up their commitment. I would definitely refer to my friends and family.

VGA out of the box,

This was one of the only pocket projectors I could find with VGA (15 pin D-SUB connector) support right out of the box. This is the connection you need to plug it in to netbooks, most laptops and desktops, etc.Image quality: Image quality is great IMHO, producing a clear picture up to about 50 inches diagonal in a dark room. There is some extra light leaking around the edge of the image but it is not strong at a distance. Battery: I never tested the lifespan of the battery, but it is long enough to mess around with and maybe even watch a full TV episode or two. VGA Cord: The included (2-3 ft) VGA cord seems to have a proprietary plug on the projector end, so a VGA extension cable may be necessary to get it far from its source. Tripod: It also includes a small fully adjustable tripod which comes in handy. Power On/Off: The only real problem for me is that the power button is a little finicky. It can be a little difficult to turn on and off - it has no remote control - and it displays a blue screen for a few seconds before picking up the VGA signal. Noise: None! Heat: Not too bad. It gets quite warm though around the vent visible in the picture. -------- Other Thoughts: I bought this to plug in to my netbook and use at night as a projection clock/weather reporter (via my own custom-written clock program). The 640x480 resolution and out-of-the-box support for VGA input coupled with the low price is what sold me. The bright blue signal acquisition screen and finicky power button make it unrealistic to consider just turning it on and off to see the time (not to mention reaching for it wherever it is mounted), so it would have to be on all night long. Unfortunately, the 10,000 hour estimated LED life is 1/2 to 1/3 the lifespan of some other models, meaning it should last 1, 2, maybe 3 years being used only at night (turned on at night, off every morning). There is no way to turn it on and off aside from using the power button or unplugging it and letting the battery run dead. Still, I'm sure it will beat the current generation of actual projector clocks, with their simple displays and fragile wiring!

When you purchased a projector of this price and size you are not expecting so many PROs!1. Excellent size!: fits on your hand! 2. 100% functional: You can use it with the camera, the notebook, the computer, the cell phone and even with the ipod touch (you have to buy an extra cable: Apple Composite AV Cable). 3. Good image: considering the size, the image is neat, and it doesn't need to be in an extremely dark place to have a big, clearly image. 4. 200% portable: you can take it where ever you want, with a few implements! And that's it! You can enjoy it! 5. It comes with a mini spider tripod that helps you with the projection. CONs: 1. So far, three months of use, the only con that U have is that I haven't been able to project the image in a regular square, the upper side of the square is a bit thinner than the other ones, but it's not a big deal! For the price, what you get is more than you expected!

This truly is a very small projector and you should expect "business quality presentations." In anything other than a very dimly lit or dark room you can't see the image if projected more than about 5 feet. It's a rugged little peice of equipment, but if you want quality, spend the extra money on a full sized projector.

Great Little Projector!,

This projector is a lot of fun. It's incredibly small and sturdy, and can be easily stored in a bag or a purse if you're looking for something you can keep with you. As mentioned in earlier reviews, it's not as powerful as a full-sized projector, but it does perfectly well in dark areas. I was also able to get started right away, it came with all the cables I needed. The mini tripod that comes with it is certainly a bonus as well. Also, I found the company to be extremely helpful. I contacted them with a question and got an answer back quickly, which I appreciated very much. Overall, I've been completely satisfied with this purchase and have been having a lot of fun taking this little projector around with me. |
