5.0 out of 5 stars Love it.
May be still early for a review but i took my dog out with this tonight and so far i love it!. it flies very well, has a nice weight to it, it is very bright and very easy to see, its also a good material i normally throw a Jawz disc for my dog and i love them because they don't get all torn up on the rim so that it cuts my hands when i throw or his gums as he catches. I have 6 of these Nite Ize Dog Discuits. The lights in all six are now dead or gone. Admittedly, my two labs are tough on them and I purchased them expecting to have to replace them periodically. 1.0 out of 5 stars Perfect - Until It DIES!, October 22, 2010

I have 6 of these Nite Ize Dog Discuits. The lights in all six are now dead or gone. Admittedly, my two labs are tough on them and I purchased them expecting to have to replace them periodically. I should also mention I use them almost every day. One was dead out of the box -- the others died within a couple of weeks. Why do I keep buying them? My dogs LOVE to play with them and my neighbors enjoy the light show. It's all very dramatic when an arcing disc suddenly is pulled from the sky and then "runs" back to me. My labs are as black as night and it's pretty cool. That they are black precludes me from working them too hard during warm days - they heat up like solar panels so night-time play is essential in their opinion.

Here's the problem - described very well in the first two reviews: the design of the light and battery chamber sucks. The instructions say to remove the center cap after use for cleaning. My discs are covered with gobs of slob after a session as labs are built to slime and the battery/light would corrode if I didn't clean them after every use. The problem is that once the center cap is removed it NEVER seats properly again. (And yes, I know there's a trick to getting it to "click".) This causes it to come apart at the most inopportune times. It seems to me that had they come up with a "threading" system instead of a "snap" they'd have a perfect product.

But what really chaps my ass is that my calls and voice mails to Nite Ize have gone unanswered. Here's what I wanted: to simply buy some replacement light units and caps to try to rebuild the units I have. I'm ready to send them as much money as is necessary to do this. I would use clear silicon to seal and attach the caps. If I got even 3 months of use out of these rebuilds I'd be happy.

I will say that the design of the disc itself is near perfect - it's weighted well so you can fling it a decent distance, and is relatively easy on the dog mouth. This is important - I've had champion Frisbee dogs with all manner of messed up teeth from catching regular Frisbees (Sorry pups - we learned the hard way) The material is softish and given their (again relative) lightness they don't torque teeth when caught. If only they could get the lighting compartment right they'd have a spectacular dog disc. It is a fine daytime disc though I wish it were a color the dogs could see a little better. The opaque clear color gets "lost" against the clouds during day play.

So here's the best you're going to do with these Dog Discuits:

- Never remove the center cap.
- Rinse it carefully to keep water from getting into the battery/light compartment.
- Towel it dry.
- Use compressed air to blow the water out.
- Dry it in the sun the next morning if possible - bottom-side up.

With luck it'll last 2-3 months before it flakes out. So yeah - these are basically disposable at this point.

Nite Ize - step up and fix this, kay? I'll gladly rewrite this if you do.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but not durable enough, February 6, 2010

This is a really fun product for both people and pets, but my dog steps on it, which causes the battery part to fall out of the middle. I almost lost that little piece in the dark and the snow the other night. I will probably try to silicone it in there and keep using it. For now we use the night ize led glowing ball instead, also a great product and more durable.

3.0 out of 5 stars fun for awhile, November 9, 2008

My dog loved this toy while it lasted, but it didn't take long for the lighting mechanism to fall out and then it was just another semi-soft frisbee that she got bored with. My dog really likes the foam and clothe frisbees, because they are easy to pick up.

I think this one will hold up nicely as well its made of a soft plastic almost rubbery but with a sort of textured grip yet not too soft should be good in all weather conditions probably not as tough as a Jawz but, a great night time or dusk product. You will never loose this.

This is the 2nd time Ive purchased these discs. I bought both the red and green one a couple years ago and had to buy more becuase both of them disappeared. I had them long enough to get my moneys worth. they are built tuff and fly great, even on windy days I've had no problem taking my dog out and playing catch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great for humans....not so great for dogs!, August 27, 2011

I purchased this Frisbee so I could play with my dog in the dark. My dog absolutely loved it for about 20 minutes then it broke. Before it broke, my dog kept turning the light on and off when carrying it back to me as the light is triggered by pressing down on the LED itself. The LED flew out of it's housing in the center of the disc while it was flying through the air.. I have a 115lb German Shepherd who can really punish a frisbee but never in 20 minutes...not even the cheap $1 kind you can pick up at the pet store....The product description is as follows: "The Dog Discuit is not only super fun, it's mouth friendly, bite durable, and has a canine-resistant cap that helps prevent dogs from chewing off the battery and LED housing". Sorry NiteIze - awesome concept but the disc just isn't durable enough for anything but human use.

I actually bought this product not for dog use, but to play Flimsee at night. (do an internet search for the family lawn game Flimsee, if needed). It works perfect- bright grene glow that can easily be seen. Other reviews mentioned problems with the battery compartment, but I haven't had any such problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars After work playtime with the dog, May 21, 2011

I Love it. My dog is Super responsive to the frisbee and she knows its hers. Also seems like durable, so the dog doesn't destroy it while playing. And finally, Dogs' frisbee game is improving dramatically. Yes. Airborn Boxer.
