Product Description
The Foscam FI8904W is a wireless or wired IP camera solution for outdoor use. It combines a high quality digital video camera with network connectivity and a powerful web server to bring clear video to your desktop or smartphone from anywhere on your local network or over the Internet. The high quality video image is transmitted with 30fps speed on the LAN/WAN by using MJPEG hardware compression technology. The image resultion is 640 x 480 (300k Pixels). The Foscam FI8904W camera is based on the TCP/IP standard. The control, management and maintenance of the camera is done simply by using your browser to remotely configure and upgrade the firmware. The Foscam FI8904W IP camera can reach up to 20 meters of visibility in absolute darkness with 24 infrared LED's.

Amazon Verified Purchase
Foscam cameras are GREAT products, in particular these model FI8905W for long distance observation and models ..04W and ..03W for "average distance" monitoring --- IF you purchase them from the right seller (more below). Get the model FI8905W with the 6mm lens for better coverage, this is the standard version. The 12mm lens is an option, according to Foscam's official web site. I also use FOSCAM outdoor models FI8904W (with 3.6mm) lens and FI8903W (with 3.6mm lens), and indoor model FI8918W (PTZ). If you are setting up a whole-house system consider Blue-Iris (full version) software for MS-Windows, or Zoneminder for Linux. Both work great with these cameras. Also great Android apps are available to control the whole system from your phone or Android Tablet.
CAVEAT choose your seller CAREFULLY (the seller shown above is probably not the one I purchased from, because Amazon rotates sellers per product availability.) Because these cameras are popular, there are clones that look identical but they do not have the functionality when you go to use them. Also, Genuine FOSCAM camera Models FI8903W, FI8904W, and FI8905W are currently manufactured in a "NEW" hardware design that supports encrypted Gmail alerts (smtp TLS/STARTTLS - also called SSL encryption). In three of my purchases from one seller, I received the old hardware, labelled as NEW. This hardware arrived with OUTDATED firmware and outdated Web-UI which I was advised to update. However, email alerts still failed giving the error "This device not support TLS/STARTTLS". NEW FIRMWARE IN THE OLDER HARDWARE WILL NOT SUPPORT TLS/STARTTLS EMAIL ALERTS. I had to return three of four orders from one Amazon seller due to this problem. These were orders fulfilled by Amazon. I AM THANKFUL FOR AMAZON'S GREAT RETURNS POLICY AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH ALLOWED ME TO RETURN THESE DEFECTIVE ITEMS SO EASILY.
I reordered more FOSCAM's from Amazon, this time from two different sellers. They arrived with Current hardware, Current Firmware and current Web-user interface already loaded, and these Foscam cameras worked PERFECTLY. If you don't need encrypted email alerts, the old hardware from any seller will probably work fine for you.
