I bought this to put in an old mussel car. The extinguisher is very small but I hope it will be big enough if I ever need it.
Update Aug 2011; This WAS big enough! My engine caught fire and this extinguisher put it out and I only used half. I ordered another to replace my spare.

I think everyone should have a fire extinguisher in their car! I bought this for the random track events I attend, and for my daily driving. Twice I've come across cars that had just caught on fire pulled off to the side of the road, and could've probably stopped it right there had either of us had this handy. I also got complemented (and possibly let off easier) from the cop that pulled me over when he saw I had one (kept it in the glove box w/ registration). This fits very well in the glove box of both my cars. It does have a maximum storage temperature - around 120*F. So does every compressed gas though. Good to know if it does exceed the temp it does not explode and shouldn't leak anything all over your car - it has a pressure release valve - from what I'm told by First Alert. It'll just fail to work afterwards. I was concerned about that, as obviously in summer being parked on an asphalt lot in a black car inside a glove box or trunk it could easily exceed 120, but so far it's held up. So does the mace I've carried in my car for years, I haven't had any compressed gas items actually fail at the 120* mark / in a hot car.

Hope you never need this, but be prepared if you do! It could save you or a stranger a lot of money. Just handle the fire wisely, don't think this is going to stop a gas tank from exploding or anything, keep your distance and aim at the base.

Two things to note about this product are:
1) It is only for Class B (Liquids) and C (Electrical) fires - this has been mentioned by the vendor on the page.
2) When you use it, you must empty it out (discharge completely) and dispose it.

I've uploaded some pictures to give you a perspective of the size of this thing and what instructions are on it. The mounting bracket is good however it does not come with screws which is alright. There is a plastic tab on the top which can be used to check if the pressure is right.

Having not used it, I don't have any complaints from this device whatsoever. I don't have much else to say about it. Any questions, let me know.

Bought two, one for the wife's Buick and my Corvette. Mounts neatly behind driver's seat in my cockpit. Good value, manageable size, who needs chrome and a hundred dollar price tag for safety. Easy purchasing decision for me. Ironically hope I never have to use them but, this item is highly affordable and should be utilized by all conscientious motorists.

Pulling a brand new camper with a modern pickup truck with low miles. A gasket in the transmission blew and transmission fluid poured onto the hot exhaust system and burst in to flames. The churning white smoke was a big clue that something was wrong, but there seems to be a million ways cars can smoke without flame. Well, looking under the rig, there were 6-10" flames going strong.
The camper had a fire extinguisher near the door so my wife ran back to get it while I checked the situation. She tossed me the extinguisher and I had the fire out in seconds.
I don't know if the fire would have spread. I don't know if the 30 + gallons of gasoline in the truck was in jeopardy. I do know that today, two days after the incident, I have a replacement ordered for the camper, and a unit for each vehicle. It's a $20 thing that saved us thousands of dollars.
I may never have another vehicle fire, and I may never come across a burning vehicle. I do know that I feel much safer with these in all vehicles, having experienced it just once, Its a very smart thing to have.

I guess the 5 star rating is premature, but it's given me five star confidence. It's a reputable company with a good name. In the moment, you wont care. You'll grab it and use it and be thankful you have it.

Seems like it is just right. About the right size for an engine or gas spill fire and also the right size to fit in my car. Not small, but medium, about the size of a 2 liter bottle.

Label says "Meets DOT requirement for cylinders" and it puts out liquids (like gasoline) and electrical. Has simple, clear instructions on front label. It's about the size of a quart (liter) container. A bit small, but so is the price. The instructions say specifically not to open it, or try to discharge it partially or it will lose pressure. There is a green button on top that you use to see if it is charged. Mine is. Non-refillable. Made in Mexico.

A well made product that every car owners should have. I had a question about the 120 degree warning and I received a prompt call back with an answer. And a promise to replace the product if it went bad due the this high heat.
