5.0 out of 5 stars Best FIFA Ever
I've personally purchased every FIFA game since 2001 and played the game since it first appeared on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. That's over a decade of yearly iterations plus the "World Cup" and "UEFA" editions. I know what I'm talking about.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst control ever!
First, I've been playing EA Fifa since 2000. Second, those games were ALWAYS my favorites, even compared with other soccer games. But I have to admit this one has a real big problem with controls: it supposed you enjoy scoring, so why you are always shooting to the posts???? Why is so difficult to move the ball and left the defenders away? I want a game to relax and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best FIFA Ever, October 10, 2007

This review is from: FIFA 08 (Video Game)
I've personally purchased every FIFA game since 2001 and played the game since it first appeared on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. That's over a decade of yearly iterations plus the "World Cup" and "UEFA" editions. I know what I'm talking about.

FIFA 08 on the PS3 is the best FIFA game ever to be released on a Sony system. The graphics and music are top-notch, but that's standard for the game's last few years.

Where the game breaks new ground is in the physics department. Never have professional athletes been honoured with such life-like avatars. Every kick, deak and tackle looks and more importantly feels like the real thing. The new shooting mechanics are inspired as are the ball physics. Combined these two components push the realism through the roof.

The list of impressive attributes continues: loading times are nearly non-existent, Create-a-player is more robust, the arena interface (also found in EA's NBA LIVE 08) is simple and fun and the addition of custom formations is a long awaited boon.

Finally the return of "The Lounge", the tweaking of "Manager Mode" and the addition of the "Be-A-Pro Mode"(which allows the user to control only one player during the match) ups the replay value exponentially.

FIFA 08 is stellar - really an awesome buy for anyone looking for a great sports game. My only complaint involves the lacklustre commentary, which despite being broad in scope is less than enthusiastic.

That small flaw aside, EA has a real winner here. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fair effort, October 17, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA 08 (Video Game)
I'm a football video gaming freak and have been for a decade now. With regards to this game, i feel it is one of the best fifa games i've ever played. visuals, audio and detail is brilliant. however, most of us want to get INTO the game only to an extent, and what matters most is the gameplay- viz passing, shooting, making moves. I completely echo review "JB"'s comments. Antipation is key, but even if you know what to do have pulled off the button combination for attack/defend, the player responsiveness just is not as sharp and timely as you would find in a pro evolution soccer game. I know, now you must be thinking I am biased towards the latter, but I've played fifa games for a decade now and I know what a fantastic football game should be like. In this latest version, like JB said, when you defend you can't do much apart from run alongside the attacker and hope for the best, and attacking, again because you have to anticipate so far in advance it makes it difficult to put any classy move together. Fun to play in doubles or more though, since controller sensitivity and player response frustrations are mitigated somewhat. overall still a fun game, and probably the best until evo 2008 comes out. if fifa can just tweak the current game play to make the players slightly more responsive, there would be no competition. alas, another year to be spent in hope

4.0 out of 5 stars We're Making Progress... But We're Not Quite There Yet..., March 13, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA 08 (Video Game)
This is the best FIFA Soccer game yet - the graphics are wonderful on a 1080p DLP TV and the presentation, licensing, is top notch. Gameplay is much improved, although I agree with several previous reviewers on two very important points:

1. When defending, all you can really do is run alongside the ball handler and try to pressure him off of the ball. That's it. Timing a tackle can also work, but if you miss, you're in odd-man situation and the AI does a fairly good job at working a shot.
2. Trying to execute a 'trick' move is very hard to do, must be anticipated well in advance, and even then, there is little success. Even in extreme situations (i.e. C Ronaldo vs. any Derby County defender - get the point).

Also, the AI seems very proficient at corner kicks - much more proficient then you will find you will be able to be. But enough criticism. The game is fun, has very little framerate issues (you'll see a slight hesitation rarely), has great stadiums & kits and plays well online. This is a big step for this franchise and sets the stage for a (potentially) very strong, PES-challenging game platform. In fact, FIFA '08 is strong enough to make those of us fluent in the PES/Winning Eleven series to start nit-picking that game (mainly, the lack of licensing and amount of editing needed to be done to present the teams & kits properly). What's important at the end of the day, however, is the play on the pitch, and FIFA has made big strides. It's not quite as smooth and responsive as PES, but the gap is narrowing and "Seabass" (the producer of PES 2008) should be on DEFCOM alert 4.

Purchase with confidence - enjoy!

Fifa 08 is a very good game. I sold my Fifa 10 (very frustrating, especially w/ foul system) and traded down to the closest thing to Fifa 07 which was this. At first experience playing on semi-pro level, it was very difficult to score goals. However, over time I got experienced and it wasn't difficult for me anymore. Keeping it short & simple. PROS: Excellent graphics, Good AI, Ability to manage finances in Manager Mode (not avail. in Fifa 10). CONS: Sometimes other teammates get in your way when you're on the ball, They are sometimes non-responsive when the ball is passed to them, No milestone for every five goal increment, Commentators sometimes give false info, Commentator judgments are often delayed, or slow, Absence of referee on the field (only shows up for R/Y cards). Overall Fifa 08 is a very good game and I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Game!, December 28, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA 08 (Video Game)
Finally, how grateful am I that a true soccer game has returned. I'm pleased to say that this is the best FIFA that has come in years. The feel of the game, the graphics, the sounds, the new gameplay, etc. I'll try not to make this a long review so here it goes. FIFA has all of the clubs that matter, (and many that don't, really) with official kits, boots, balls, stadiums and many more. The new addition is the shooting system, place the ball where you want it. There is also the new be a pro mode that allows you to play with a single player and be judged on your performance. I have said before that FIFA was becoming an expensive roster update, but I must now take that back and judge this game as excellent. Please, if you love soccer, do us all a favor and pick this game, you won't regret it, I bet my life on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars great addition to the fifa series., November 5, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA 08 (Video Game)
i can not express in words how great this game is. i played soccer competitely for over a decade and have been coaching a competitve premier club team for over 4 now. the game designers did a magnificent job constructing the way the game is supposed to be played. this game might seem hard and or not as fun as the last fifa games for somebody who doesn't understand the actual game of soccer. the AI in the game is amazing and will actually adapt to how you play the game and start using your own tactical style of play against you. this is actually the first fifa that has ever given me a challenge and i love it. the game is very smooth and the way the players touch the ball can only be better represented by watch an actual live game. an amazing game. if you are a fan of soccer, this is a must by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Great Improvement!, October 13, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA 08 (Video Game)
This is an excellent improvement from the last FIFA games. I really like the new features like online and Be Like a Pro. I was also amazed by the short loading screens and what makes it even better is that while it loads you can take some practice shots with Ronaldindho. The graphics are also amazing. The realism of the crowd has increased greatly too. Depending on what country your playing in and what team is "home" the crowd will cheer their cheer in that language. I realized this when playing in the bundesliga and I was facing Bremen away. The crowd would cheer the popular "Auf gets -TEAM NAME- schiest ein tor!" with the tone and everything. I highly recommend this video game for any fan of soccer to occupy their time when their favorite team isn't playing (its practically like watching a real game with this level of realism).

I want a game to relax and enjoy, not a dissapointing game when the score is always against your team, because a single shot from the computer is a goal...but you have to score 1 in 20 shots!!!! And I'm talking with 9 years playing the same game, even the 08 for PS2.

Fifa 2008 is the most polished and perfected fifa that has ever been brought to market. The game play is amazing, the menu, the graphics, the extra features!

People that have played fifa for ages like me will agree, this fifa tops them all for so many reasons its hard to express.

Once you connect to the internet the game breathes an entirely new life: soccer podcasts from all around the world, game updates, roster downloads, live sports ticker, match games with entire strangers.

ITS AMAZING!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good game, but one bad feature..., July 17, 2011

This review is from: FIFA 08 (Video Game)
I like this game but I really wanted this game for online feature. And I tried and tried to go online with EA, but since it is 2011 and this game is from 2008 I looked up the EA online information on why I couldn't go online, and it said that once games get to their point of certain years old (hence the game is 3 years old), EA closes down their online modes permenantly. Meaning you can't play online ever again. Now I am disappointed and a bit mad that no one rarely knows about this, and wish who ever sells this game (and others that are on EA's list) that they would state it before someone buys it and expects to play it online, people should really know about this before purchasing such a older game and hoping to play online. But overall the game is good. I just wish the online mode was up. Below are a list of more games that EA has also cancelled online features to:
