Amazing game, best soccer game ever,
By Mark Williams (Durham, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: FIFA 2002 (Video Game)
Fifa 2002. This game is better than any words can describe. It combines high quality control with incredibly realistic graphics for an excellent feel. Being a soccer fanatic, I can tell you that this game is much like the real game of soccer (except that it requires no real physical play, of course). I have been playing this game non-stop for a couple of weeks now, and I have had this game since Christmas. It is great for multiplayer or for just sitting down by you for a quick game. I like to challenge myself by playing on World Class mode, the hardest level of play there is. I'll get right into the game.I'll start with the graphics. These graphics are absolutely incredible, no doubt. Every time I turn the game on my jaw drops at the incredible detail of the players' faces and the scarily accurate interactions between players (arms pushing off each other, legs reaching out to take the ball, etc.). And the cinematic sequences, like every time you score a goal or the opening, ending, and halftime sequences, are beyond belief. EA Sports is known for having the tip-top graphics, and this game goes far beyond my expectations, and I think many people will agree. The presentation is good, and even the Menus have been carefully thought out. The game is aesthetically pleasing, and all of my family members agree that this is one of the most realistic-looking and playing soccer games on the market. Next, the sound. The sounds are very high quality in this game, and even the menu music sounds good. I find myself getting these songs stuck in my head often (which is not always a good thing). The commentary is incredible; every single part of the game is programmed in with commentary, and there is an option to turn it off it you don't like the announcers. Much of what they say is different, and I find the announcers' reactions to be very amusing sometimes. There's not a whole lot to say about the sound effects, they are fairly simple. There's not much to them except for the thump of the ball being kicked, and the occasional moan from a slide-tackled player. They are fairly simple, but are extremely effective. And an occasional burst from the crowd can actually affect the way you play. The gameplay. Wow, what can I say? It is incredible. Unlike any soccer game I've played before (and believe me, I've played a lot), this game's control is nearly perfect, and the use of momentum and curve on the balls now has a big effect on your game. It's all these tiny things that make this game feel real. There is now an easy way to do a 1-2 pass (give and go), and that is with the flick of the C-Stick. Lob balls are also important, and they can be kicked by using the B button. However, one of the most important additions to your shots and passes is adding curve to the ball. I have scored numerous goals from nearly midfield by adding curve to the ball so that it curves around the keeper and into the net. You can also curve the ball around players for all sorts of passes. This game is extremely fun to play, and I enjoy it nearly every day. Seasons are especially fun for me, and the Create-a-Player option is also enjoyable. Overall, the gameplay is excellent. The replay value for this game is excellent in my opinion, but many people do not enjoy sports games as much as I do. I find I can play this game several times in a row and I am still perfectly satisfied. Keep in mind though that this is my opinion, and my opinion could differ greatly from someone who doesn't like sports games. Also keep in mind that another improved version of this game is Fifa World Cup. I have yet to play this one, but I've heard it's great and can provide more longevity to your Fifa experience. Overall, Fifa 2002 is one of the greatest sports games currently. I enjoy it a whole lot, and I feel that everyone should at least try this great game. It's at least a must-rent, and I believe it's a must-buy. All of the qualities that make up this game are nearly perfect, and a season only takes up 29 blocks on a memory card, which really isn't bad as far as seasons go. Overall, Fifa 2002 is a great buy and I recommend it to any gamer that enjoys sports games. As an avid soccer player, this game is great fun for me and all of my friends. I hope this review is helpful. Mark Williams

Great graphics combined with all star game play: GOAL,

Fifa 2002 is by far the best Fifa game to date. EA has given you complete control of the ball, and gave the ps2 graphics a boost on the good ol' cube.Graphics: 5- Great. Though they are, of course, less noticeable during regular game play, after you score prepare to be amazed. The crowd is the best I've ever seen in any sports game. Sound: 4- Decent. The soundtrack is good, but Madden's is better. The sound effects are good, and when the goalie picks up the ball the crowd claps. The commentary can be annoying some times, but there is an option to turn it off. Gameplay: 5- EA has done an excellent job of giving you complete control of the ball. You can add spin with the shoulders and aim exactly where you want the ball to go. Aiming takes some getting used to. The AI is very challenging, but Amateur difficulty is way too easy. Overall: 5- Great graphics, great control, it all equals up to the the single best soccer game i've ever played. The create-a-team and players is super, and creating a league with your friends is my fav thing to do. Pick this one up now.

FIFA is a great soccer title compared to the cartoon version, Soccer Slam. This is a game with easy controls to remember, Over 10 leagues and divisons and over 150 teams to choose from!Another plus is the detail on every player! The only problems are that there too many championships to go through, unless you like to take ur time with games. This game takes up too much memory on a 59 memory card, unless you have a 251 which, you'll be fine. Last, problem the setting this game starts on is too easy. I won 15 to 0 on my first game. This game is a totally a keeper for you if your a die hard soccer fan!

Easily the Best game for the Cube,
By Vincent Maggio (Fort Collins, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: FIFA 2002 (Video Game)
After wasting numerous hours (days, rather) playing this game, I've come to the conclusion that this is the best sports game ever produced for any system. No joke. The play control is PERFECT, the control is outstanding (those strange buttons on Cube are actually nice once you learn em), and of course the visuals are excellent, with lots of camera angles to choose from. But what sets this game apart from every other, is the sound. Quite possibly the first flawless play-by-play I've ever heard. For a game so unpredictible as soccer, EA did a wonderful job of making the announcers (actual English play callers from what I'm told) sound like they are there, watching the game, telling you what's going on. Last but not least, the music. Top flight dance 'n' trance tunes you've probably actually heard before really lend to the experience. Overall, the best game on Cube (yes, better than smash bros.)

It's Aight(but ISS is the $#!+),

Let's face it folks. FIFA is FIFA. Will always be FIFA. Sure you can update the graphics, tweak the gameplay a little, but the game will always stay the same(prove otherwise and I will eat these words).ISS 2(not to mention the original) has shown true fans of the beautiful game the light. The depth is staggering, gameplay original, and you must really immerse yourself in the game to become an effective force to be reckoned with. In FIFA, a player can score from just about anywhere on the field, with any player, even a defender can make a run from his own half and put the ball in the back of the net!! Try that in ISS and you will find yourself out of luck mis amigos!! It requires skill, some real planning, and vision(real soccer fans will know what I mean) to score beautiful goals, and the goals are more rewarding once you score because of the effort you put into getting them. This is by far the next genre in soccer gaming. Right now the only advantage that FIFA has over ISS is the player names, thats it!!! ...

Realism at its best,

I'm sure you know that EA Sports constantly brings realism to its games by the dozens. But in FIFA 2002, it feels as though it is real. The graphics are the best, and the passing system is revolutionary and spot-on. The sound does its job, with some good commentaries by John Motson and Andy Gray, some good sound effects, and the background music which is decent. Overall, its shamelessly addictive and realistic "football:.

This game is Great! You can be any team that exists, and play in every mode there is. Also, it's only ($$$)!. It's much better than FIFA World Cup 2002, and it's ($$$) cheaper. The graphics are good, and so are the controls. There's not a lot else to say except GET IT!

I got this game for my birthday and when I saw it I was like "This is gonna be boring." Then I started playing it thinking I could sell it used and....I LOVED IT!... It is one of the best games for The 'Cube. Here's my rating of it:Gameplay 5/5:It has very fun gameplay. This is one of the most fun games I've had! Sound 4/5: Could be a little bit better but NOT MUCH. Replay 5/5: I've played this game so much and I'M NOT BORED YET. Contols 5/5: The nice people at EA give you a list of all the controls before you start a game. There not hard either. Graphics 4/5: During normal gameplay, the graphics are so-so. But when you get a goal or a red card or a bunch of other stuff the graphic are SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!! Soundtrack 5/5: Normally, you only have a soundtrack at the begining but it rules. There are a lot of cool tunes to listen to. This is a TOTAL MUST HAVE for gamers who like soccer and who don't. |
