FIFA 2010 ... Big disappointment,
By Forrest (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 10 (Video Game)
I have been playing FIFA 2009 since last fall and recently bought FIFA 2010 in the assumption that it would be a better game. It is not. While the graphics are a little better and the shooting and realism of gameplay is better, there are a multitude of aspects that EA Sports took away that make the game frustrating and less of an involved experience. If you want an "arcade" feel, this is what you want. If you want a game that you paid for to play on your own Wii in your home and the customization that comes with it, bother not with this game.
1. The interface is extremely annoying and dumbed down. It gives you very few ways to customize your experience. 2. The statistics page is dumbed down. You can no longer get the detail of stats you could in 2009, which I feel is one of the most important ways to get involved with your team and how the individual players perform. Reviewer #1 doesn't know what he is talking about in this regard. 3. You cannot adjust the level of difficulty in a season/team/manager without starting over with a different season/team/manager. This is retarded as I would like to get comfortable with the format before increasing the difficulty as I get better. 4. Again, the interface is better suited for an arcade and is actually mildly insulting in its simplicity. 5. The slow motion shooting thing Reviewer #1 spoke of is really annoying. Also, the game does not recognize that you've already played the game before when you start a new season/team/manager so you are frequently interrupted with instructions/tips. 6. In- and post-game Match Facts are dumbed down and not interesting any more. 7. You can't manage the franchise the way you could in 2009. The "business side" is completely gone. 2009 was a great game. EA had the opportunity to tweak some things (such as pass accuracy, which is one of the few things better here) to make the game even better, but instead took away a lot of small things that made the game more fun in an effort to keep you buying next year's game. Better wait until then.

first of all I have fifa 08,09 and I am Italian so I love football (well soccer here in the US)and I was very exited when I got this game...well till I played the first few matches
1. graphic: yeah much better, a big improvement. Some things are more fifa08, e.g. you will see the player entering the stadium (that you do not see in fifa09) 2. goalkeeper handling definitely an improvement 3. corners : I am still undecided , definitely is more easy to hit by head or do complicates evolutions but fifa09 offered more control on where the ball will go 4. music: what a delusion, I loved the musics in fifa08 and fifa09. I likes them so much that I bought the individual mp3 files from amazon.com. In fifa 10 is only music (no singing) and definitely not so good 5. controls : the pointer works ok in the open play, I still don't like the shaking on when kicking penalties or kick , I liked more the fifa09 with the ability to address the ball , here in fifa10 where the ball goes is pretty much random. I also miss the possibility to pass the ball just using the arrows on the wii controller (in fia10 the arrow are used to do tricks instead) 6. stadium and ball : you can choose the stadium, you can not choose the ball, you can not even accumulate points to buy new stadiums, new jersey and new balls . Overall not so good 7. choose of jersey: this is actually a big improvement. I hated in fifa09 when you team has a away jersey similar or same color to the home jersey (or viceversa) of the opponent and essentially you play and all the players have the same jersey color. In fifa10 you can chose the jersey e..g you can use your away jersey even if you play at home, so no more color confusion 8. buy/sell: ahhhhh, what was good about fifa09 and the manager mode was that each player has a price, was easy to search across countries, you will have a budget, tickets revenues and salaries. Forget about this in fifa10, all you have are points. You can spend points and players are evaluated in terms of points...e.g Sculli will be 16 points when in fifa09 was a 78 and 5 million dollars price tag 9. I was initially thinking about trading in fifa09 to get some money back but I have changed my mind after playing fifa10 : fifa09 will stay in my library 10. commentators : 3 games later (08,09,10) I thought theye would spend some more time on getting different comments or voices . It's over and over the same comments you heard in 08,09 so they are not funny anymore I will definitely play a few more days but so far 3 stars but no more then 3

I did not enjoy playing this game. I scored quite a few goals from midfield and all the shots I took were in slow motion at first and then extremely fast. It becomes annoying really fast. This game is not very realistic. It's arcade style turned me off completely. If you want to play something that even comes close to the real thing, try Pro Evolution soccer for the Wii.

Fifa 10 has better ball and player movements in this FIFA 10 version, however, do not expect the graphics from XBOX and the other consoles. The faces look cartoonish. The playing experience passing the ball, going around other players, etc. is better than in FIFA 09 in part because you don't have the limitations on where to pass the ball to. Now is 360 degrees total rotation and passing. The control of the goal keeper in defense is almost non-existant. In attack he just kicks the ball or passes it with the hands, but you don't controll much of it... specially when kicking. The time for playing is limited to a maximum of five minutes. This I think is ridiculous. Shooting to the goal of the opposite team you don't have any controll or where the ball goes. There is an indicator, which is timed, on the ground and the closes you get to the end of it... where the ball is, the more accurate is your kick. This also happens when you have a penalty... not controll whatsoever on where the ball is going to go. FIFA 09 allows you to indicate where you want the ball before shacking the control to kick it. So... if you are looking for better movement of the body while passing and going throught the other players...definitely FIFA 10, but if you like to be in more controll of the ball when shooting and the keeper... FIFA 09. Also... all my family believes that 09 have better graphics (people faces and replays are better). I have not tried the game online... so the experience there may be different.

My son plays the FIFE 2009 Wii game and absolutely loves it. So, I purchased the 2010 version thinking I would have the "best birthday gift ever" for him. It isn't nearly as good as the last version. Don't bother paying the high price of the new version. Stick with 2009.

FIFA 10 has gone back to the basics with the interface. With a simple flick of the wrist, of push of a button players can play the game. The rest comes down to timing.
The good: - more teams, better graphics, improved gameplay - the interface is very simple to use. To shoot, a simple wiggle of the remote and you have a shot on goal. Took a few games to master it, but its definitely an improvement over FIFA 09. - In tournament mode, FIFA 10 shows league stats - The system maintains profiles for each human player. The bad: - the dramatic slow-down for shots is just downright annoying. I absolutely hate it and wish there was a way to turn it off. - on 'easy' the opponent is consistently taking shots from mid-field and making them. - you cannot select which player to pass to. I've had a few off-sides calls because of this glitch - eliminated the Footii mode {I didn't play this much, so it's not a big deal} I haven't used the manager or internet mode yet. FIFA 10 gets an 'A' for simplicity and graphics. There are still a few unfair artificial intelligence rules in the system, but overall it's very good. ============= After playing this for a month, I'd like to add a few things: - it's way too easy -- this is more geared for an arcade game. - the background music is not as good as FIFA 09 - the season statistics are woefully lacking compared to FIFA 09. There is no way to see a team listing of whole your team leaders for goals/assists

Good for playing with the kids, lousy if you want a soccer video game,

The wife and kids bought me this for my birthday and I was excited to try it, being almost addicted to FIFA07 on the Gamecube. However, it's so wildly different on the Wii that, apart from the occasional game playing with my 10 and 9 year olds, I don't touch it. Way too simplified, no real control, manager mode is all but gone, and the game play is nowhere near as sophisticated. When playing against the computer, they always shoot from every free kick and routinely score from the half way line which is hardly realistic. The slow motion BEFORE the event is incredibly annoying and it has more irritating features than I can shake a stick at. If you are used to earlier or more powerful versions (I don't know what this is like on PS3 or XBox) you won't want this one.

I have not played an EA FIFA game in the past, so this review will be one of the few not comparing it to Wii Fifa 09.
As a stand alone product, it is as addicting as all heck. The game play is very fast and requires 100% concentration or the next thing you know, your opponent will have racked up 3 or 4 goals. The options for managing the team are a little limited, but who cares if the game play is so great - that's what action sports games are about, the playing. Playing multiplayer locally is a lot of fun. I also enjoy the "Battle for Glory" sections that play a short-simulated season of your favorite league - Go Shamrock Rovers!! The slow motion shots, tackles, etc, are not annoying and only add to the intensity of the game - the slow motion adds more suspense (will this be a goal? will I miss it? will my goalie stop this shot?). So if you have a few friends and want to play a sports game head to head, or on the same team, I'd give this a shot. This and Tiger Woods 10 are all I play right now.

If you want a high-quality, in-depth soccer game. Do NOT buy Fifa 10 for the Wii. The interface is dumbed-down to the point of being insulting. The manager mode is especially bad. The normal transfer system has been replaced with a strange system involving points and stars - apparently trading players for money is too complicated???? Also as a manger one has almost no control over the team and can make very few changes other than subs.
Worst of all, they have added (I'm assuming this is only on the Wii version) a bizarre system of what they call "manager moments" which include goals that one has to achieve during the game (e.g. score 3 goals during the match). If you want an arcade-ish game designed for a child of about a 6-8 year old range. You might well like this game. But if you are an adult, and especially if you are interested in a manager or dynasty mode. Avoid this game.

In the Wii the graphics are only slightly improved. Fifa 10 is an arcade style game, not a challenging game that combines skill and brains like Fifa 09. I liked the manager's mode of Fifa 09. In Fifa 10 if you play well you win, in 09 you could create a team to help you win. The changes in Fifa 10 will excite a few, but not me.
