To those who already own FIFA 09 or have a chance to buy it for cheap, don't bother buying FIFA 10. My biggest concern is gameplay, and although it's improved in a few key areas in the new version, it has also gotten significantly worse in a few.
Let's start with the 2 improvements: (1) In FIFA 09, your attackers were entirely oblivious of the offside rule, which was extremely annoying - this has been fixed. Well done, EA Sports. (2) In FIFA 09, team tactics (wing play, counter-attack, box overload, etc.) had very little effect when used. In FIFA 10, using them has a very obvious effect on the flow of the game. Again, well done, EA. Now for what I think are 5 key flaws with the gameplay in FIFA 10. (1) Players are sluggish and this makes the controls feel clumsier. Even with the gameplay set to fast in the game settings, players do not respond quickly to commands - this detracts from the gamer's ability to control them precisely. Trapping is slower. Switching directions is slower. Charging a shot is slower. They stop sprinting often a step or 2 after you've told them to. Real soccer requires quick reactions and footwork, and these things go missing in the game. (2) Playing on the higher difficulty levels makes the computer luckier, not smarter. In FIFA 09, the computer played smarter when the difficulty level was higher - it would make smarter passes, not dribble into traffic, etc. In FIFA 10, the computer is just luckier at higher difficulty levels. Where you had to be smart about full field tactics and defend the pass more often in FIFA 09, you have to defend the dribble in FIFA 10. In FIFA 10, the computer typically gets the ball to a striker and then more or less runs straight at defenders - often enough, either the ball will bounce off a few tackles and stay with the striker, who puts it into the back of the net nearly every time he shoots in the box, or defenders will move out of the striker's way for some reason when he receives the pass (even when you commend defenders to move between the striker and the goal, they often magically run out of the way; another really annoying variation on this is that defenders run into and bounce off each other). It's typical to have 65% of the possession, and to take, say, 20 shots to your opponent's 2, and still tie 2-2. You know how it feels to play against a friend you're sure is cheating somehow, because he isn't very good but seems to score on you over and over? That's how it feels playing against the computer nearly all the time. (3) The movement of your teammates off the ball is generally ludicrous. They don't get into good positions for passes. If you have a break down one of the flanks, your central striker will be square with you until you get to the top of the box, and then he'll retreat for some reason, letting defenders get between him and you. So scoring with a cross on the ground hit between two sprinting players - the most stylish way to score in FIFA 09 - is nearly impossible in FIFA 10. (4) Shooting is very, very difficult. You can have 10 one-on-ones with a keeper and score once - the computer can have 10 and score 9 times. And scoring from long shots is a thing of the past. (5) Players are incapable of completing the shortest passes between one another - they're okay about 10 yards apart, but get them 2 yards apart and they're hopeless. This was also a problem in FIFA 09 - it seems like a very obvious problem and it hasn't been fixed. The effect of this is that when you get into close quarters - which tends to happen at crucial moments, like when the ball is in one of the boxes - it's nearly impossible to do anything but dribble, shoot or (on defense) clear; and since control of the players is so sluggish (see flaw 1 above), dribbling gracefully is basically out of the question. In short, save your money and stick with or buy FIFA 09.

Fifa soccer 2010 is so much fun.
The wole famly loves to make their own players and compete against each other. Fifa soccer 2010 and other games that I have purchased are very much put to use in our family and well worth the price they offered me. Thank you very much Amazon.com

Son wanted this for B-day. Is an avid soccer fan and has previous years' FIFA editions. This seems to have improved graphics and options. It met his expectations and he enjoys it.

A short review:
If you're like me and still have a Playstation 2, FIFA 10 is a nice fix until you can get your hands on a next-gen console and game. The presentation is improved, the player movement has been tweaked, and the shooting physics are new with high emphasis on aiming your shot more precisely. When you start the game you will be asked to assess how good you are, which will in turn pick what difficulty levels you start with. As I've had every FIFA since 2002, I started with World Class difficulty on both the Player AI and the Keeper AI, and it did make a difference in the game play. Goalies are faster and more responsive. The opposing team's defense is better organized and recovers more realistically on botched plays or counter-attacks. That being said, the passing system isn't as crisp as I'd like it to be (your through-balls will often come up short) and the new shooting system takes awhile to get used to. In addition, the "scouting reports" before each game are a nice feature but in reality they are useless and add nothing to the game but another screen to click through before you can start the game. By far, the best feature is the new mode called: The Season. It lets you play as any team, in all competitions, without all the extra duties of Manager Mode. This means no training sessions, no scouting, no transfers, etc. This is a great addition for people who are bored with the Ps2 version's Manager Mode, but the playing schedule is all wrong. For instance, while playing a season as Celtic FC I had only two SPL games in the month of November but I had three Champions League games, two of which were in the same week only 2 days apart. This wouldn't be such a big deal, aside from the lack of realism, but this is where the game gets you. Because I play as Celtic and the game is fairly realistic when it comes to team and player attributes, my players obviously have a lower skill-set and don't recover as fast after games. This meant I was immediatly in trouble when I had to play Liverpool twice in one week. The first game I drew 2-2 on a last ditch goal in the 90th minute, but the second game my best players were tired (in the red) and I was forced to sub in 69 and below rated players. I got beat down 3-0. Now I agree, Celtic is of a lower caliber in real life and this outcome is not surprising. The point is thought that if the games we spaced out more realistically I could have rested my best players in a league game and then started them against Pool, which based on the first result could have been another draw or a win. Just something to think about if you're like me and play with a weaker, non-5 star, team. You're likely to get frustrated when playing 5-star opposition like Man U, Barca, Inter, Chelsea, or Real M. Overall though, great game for footie fans still stuck with the Ps2 and with a $[...] price tag it's kinda hard not to rationalize buying it if you can't afford a $360+ Ps3/FIFA 10 combo.

The last FIFA I played was 06 and World Cup 06 on the Gamecube. I had been craving one with updated rosters, and since I received a P2 as a second hand gift, I quickly picked this up first. What a disappointment. The players appear to be running in quicksand first of all, normal gameplay is way slower than I'm used to. The user's defenders can't even keep up with the AI controlled players when they're dribbling the ball down the field half the time! This is on Semi-Pro difficulty level mind you. My main gripe is that 75% of time you successfully tackle the ball away from the player it bounces 10 feet or so straight to his teammate. The player control is horrible, player's momentum being completely exaggerated. Maybe it just doesn't translate to the lesser system and is better on the new gen consoles. I gave it 2 full weeks but am ready to quit wasting time on it.

Fun game and fairly easy to play but, the graphics do not compare to the FIFA 10 for ps3. Other than that no complaints.
