5.0 out of 5 stars Ole,Ole ,Ole, Ole... The Best just got Better, January 12, 2004
By
Roxas (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2004 (Video Game)
This is simply the best sports game available for the GBA. Don't be fooled in thinking EA have done a hash job (like they do with the Madden series, in which Madden 2003 is 2004 only better) with this one.

2004 is completely different from 2003. The only flaw is most of the late transfers didn't make it to the game, most notably is Chelsea whom are lacking most of their new players (Crespo, Makaele, Mutu, to name a few).
The graphics have been altered with much better animation, now the sprites really look like they're playing the beautiful game - the keepers added animation enables you to feel the power of your shots. Keepers now spill balls and tip over shots.....and even on very rare occasions save the ball in to their own net.....great realism.

Strikers can stumble and fall to the ground as the ball flies into the net.....this is very realistic and quite amazing for a hand held. It's also great to see the likes of Owen and Ronaldo burry the ball with force into the back of the net from close range. There's also a great delight in seeing a Shearer strike smash in off the cross bar barely crossing the goal line!. The new penalty and free kick feature is much better and also a lot harder to score from.

Tackling without sliding is pretty much impossible without a great defender - this adds a lot more chances for the computer and makes the game a lot more enjoyable to watch, you have to have good timing to strip the computer, the comp is also more likely to pass the ball before you get there. The "invisible' Goalie syndrome has now been fixed, believe me there are NO fake goals in this game. This of course though eventually turns out to be a double edged sword, you see once you master the art of defending the computer hardly ever scores - unless of course the two teams are really miss matched.

The best change is the L1 button this now crosses the ball much better than in 2003, again there is a real sense of pleasure screaming down the left wing with Beckham, slicing in a beauty to find a rising Raul on the on the far post! Heading and volleying are much improved.

All the players abilities though have been radically reduced, at first this is a blow but on the grander scale of things it really makes you appreciate the best players in the World.

The amount of teams is amazing and now you can even go South American teams, Mexican squad Tigres are unrealistically the worst team in the game (1/5) which is amazing when you consider all the MLS teams are now unrealistically good (3.5 - 4.5). The English premiership though is simply the hardest, every single team (even Wolves) gain more than 4 out of 5 stars (yes we have a new rating system).

The sweetest thing is the sound, the sampled songs are brilliant and the crowd noise is incredible...the chants change for whatever league you are from, from the highly melodic Italian singing to the harsh chanting of the Germans. It's hard not to get emotional when you are knocking the ball about with AC Milan and the crowd are singing, enjoying the dominance...

Oh and by the way you now get highlights to watch at your leisure, after every game.. It gets even better when you take part in a cup or a league. Amazingly after every round/week you can watch ALL the other teams games on highlight!

Ignore the "copy and paste" editorial review....utterly wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to play, August 17, 2004
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2004 (Video Game)
This is EASY game??? WOW~!!! This is HARD game for me. WHY? Because it does not let me control the players too well....and players move too slow for how I want them to play. May be I need a manual booklet since I purchased this item solo without manual. I have been playing hundreds of hrs, but never has been able to win any matches. I select 5/5 team against 2/5 team, and I still get beat. It plays with my eye site? I can not see where ball is going to be and whre I need to move players to, etc. I also do not know how to control the PK, or simple shot in the way I want it to go......VERY IRRITATING to play since I can not control the players the way I want them to play........

4.0 out of 5 stars not good for expierened gamers, May 12, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2004 (Video Game)
Hi I am an expeirenced gamer. FIFA 2004 is a very good game but it is to easy. I can be the worst team and beat the best team with the skill level on world class. Also in order to do an international tournament you have to connect your GBA to a Game Cube with FIFA 2004 in both of them and the game cube has to have so many points. Overall good game to easy
