More realism than previous FIFA installments,
By

This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2005 (Video Game)
This game plays and looks more realistic than any of the previous FIFA games. This will be a plus for most soccer fans, but may be a drawback for those who want a fast and furious arcade-like game. There are more shooting/passing/crossing/ball control possibilities than ever before, and this alone makes the game more faithful to what actual play is like. Off-the-ball control is improved, particularly the throw ins, the control of which was incredibly poor in previous FIFA games. Also, career mode is revamped, and now is modified so that you, as a rookie manager, must start with a one or two star team and better your reputation to get contracts with better teams. This again, may be a plus or a drawback, depending on your commitment to the game.

the best fifa to date,

This Fifa is the best fifa to date, winning eleven had it beat for years then ea sports got their act together and created this... the gameplay is magnificent, combining the best of previous Fifa's and Euro 04 as well, lobbed through balls, early and low crosses are all incorporated. The skill moves are fabulous and they actually work this time around, this is the closest youll come to playing for real. The graphics are A+ and the players have never looked more realistic. The much touted "first touch control" adds a whole new dimension to the game... kind of like the step they took when they finally added chest trapping in fifa 98. My favorite part of this (and the reson i got x box live) was the online gaming... ive never had more fun playing online or otherwise. In fact, the online is so much fun i havent even gotten time to finish a regular in game tournament or the career mode. Ive been an avid fifa fan since fifa 96, and it seemed that whenever EA took one step forward with this game, they took two back..but with the latest installment, they took the biggest leap forward in all departments. Its like they finally listened to all the critisism of past and decided to put things right (or they played a lot of winning eleven!)
anwyays if you like fifa, or soccer in general, get this game, its as good as soccer gets. Admendment: The soundtrack is very fun and doesnt get boring.

Best Fifa Game, but it doesn't reaches starhood,

I bought this game even without having played it cause I knew what I was taking. Being a big soccer fan, it was one of the games to have. And I was not disappointed. Improved gameplay, improved graphics, improved controls, improved everything. Extended teams and players database, various game modes... you are never get bored of this game.
But... (there's always a but), the two flaws I think this game has are it's narrators and that the players always look small... and if you zoom the camera too much, you loose your omniscent view of the field. But nothing is perfect in this life, so you what's nearest to perfection. Get Fifa.

I wasn't sure about buying this game. So I bought it anyway and boy was I glad I did. The gameplay is exactly how it should be and the graphics are even better than ever. It's also really fun playing against a friend. So if you're not sure about this game than rent it first. After playing it, you'll want to buy it!
Trust me!!!

Bug-filled underachievement,

While I have generally been a fan of this series, this must rate as the most poorly executed game I've ever played on Xbox. It's obvious the designers put a lot of effort into the graphics and animation and almost none into actual beta testing and bug fixes. Many of the most embarrassing problems are carry-overs from FIFA 2004. For instance, after going 42-2-0 and winning every available trophy for a team whose board only asked that I win the league, I was asked to resign and the final season commentary by Mssrs Motson and McCoist kept criticizing my team as inconsistent and mediocre and "having a shot at the top of the table" when it was, in fact, at the top of the table and so far in front of everyone else, I could have thrown the last 10 games. FIFA 2005 also freezes after almost every game, forcing a restart (no, it is not just on my Xbox). While the "first touch" system is conceptually appealing, it completely fails to distinguish great players from mediocre ones. Ronaldinho and Henry, for example, two players in the game with nearly 100% ball control and dribble skills, will still just do the same plain stepover or sideways dribble as a player with almost zero ball control, and get disposesed just as easily. It's a shame, because the gameplay has the potential to be seriously adictive. The only silver lining (besides the fact that Winning Eleven is coming out on Xbox soon) is that, when the game crashes, it's easy to tell yourself you've played enough and ought to do something more productive. The game is also very Anglo-centric, with the most thought and detail devoted to players in the Premiership, followed by Spain and Italy. This has a real dampening effect on one's enjoyment of the management mode since it doesn't really make sense to scour, say, the Brazillian league for a great up-and-coming striker, since you know every player outside the three leagues I named above will have average or mediocre attributes. Despite many of the same glitches in FIFA 2004, I had high hopes for the '05 edition, expecting they'd have been ironed out. Seeing them repeated and worsened has been a major disapointment.

One of the things no one talks about is the inclusion of a map, so you actually know where your team is. This game is the best fifa so far, and is the most fun i've had in a sports game in years.

Just One Great Soccer Game,

FIFA 2005 is the most fun sports game I have ever played. I have not met one person who has played the game sasy they didn't like it. The graphics are excellent, and the gameplay is great. The first-touch control makes the game awesome, and the different moves players can do add excitement, especially when you pull off a move and score a goal playing multiplayer. There have been several nights when me and my buddy staed up and played this game for 6 hours straight, and never got tired of it. This game has excellent replay value, simply because it is different every single time you play.
And online play is so much fun, not only because it lets you play with people from all over the world, but also because everyone has a different playing style, which makes it so you can never do the same things over and over again. Almost every game you have to adjust your play style to play your opponent. If you have been thinking about buying this game, dont wait any longer. Get this game, and I promise you will not be sorry. * I am writing this review on August 2nd, 2005, and the FIFA 06 comes out in two days. I am planning on buying that, but since I haven't played it, I can't say how it is. If it is anything like FIFA 05, then it should be worth the money.

Great Graphics...So So Gameplay,
By Mark (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2005 (Video Game)
I would give this game a 3.5 really. The presentation for this game is great. It looks good from the moment you put it into the xbox and while you are playing. They greatly improved the interface from the previous year. The in game graphics are exceptional. And music tracks are perfect with different music from around the world. The create a player option is very good and you can go into great detail with your player. The real problem that I have is the gameplay itself and that is where FIFA loses points. When playing against another person the problems aren't as apparent, but against a computer its completely obvious. You can't switch directly to the player that you need and many times the computer will switch to a player that is not the closest or best position against the ball. Which is a problem that was in the previous years game. Also when passing to a player the receiving player will not go to the ball, allowing the defender to just step in front and take it away. And again in this game the Right Analog stick is for moves, which in most cases are useless and usually cause you to lose the ball or go in the opposite direction than you intend. Also the different teams do not have any difference in their attacking patterns. All they do is pass around and attack from the wings with a cross. And the passes are almost impossible to defend against since the computer passes almost perfect every time. And the controls for defending are very bad. And in many situations it doesn't seem that you have any control at all over defenders. The online play though does help make this a better game than the previous year. Because many of the problems go away when playing against a person.
I can't make a recommendation about another game to play since this is the only game that I have played. But I do intend on renting Winning Eleven Eight. I have heard great things about the game play in this game.

Good Game just not Winning Eleven,

This is a great game for your average US game player. It's visual and auditory presentation is stunning..great graphics, animations, stadiums, all the official licences (Premier, La Liga, Bundesliga, Sire A, MLS, etc), great music and stadium ambience. Also, EA has included tons of customizations enabling you to make the team of your dreams. Oh, and it has online play a no go with Winning Eleven. On the presentation and option side Fifa is simply the best soccer around (maybe the best sports title period).
It is, however, in the area of gameplay where Fifa loses the ball. The action while fast paced and exciting has a tendency to become reptitive particularly as you get better at the game. Games against your friends tend to resemble ice hockey with your players knocking the c**p out of each other (the refs are terrible). I don't think most North Americans mind this (hell most probably like it) but this drives Europeans and South Americans crazy. This is probably why Fifa have left this issue alone while improving a lot of other things in their gameplay (basically copied Winning Eleven). Overall, the play just feels stilted and unnatural. Everytime, I pick up a new Fifa game, I'm blown away by the graphics, sounds, Premier League, and initially by the gameplay improvements. After a week or so the gameplay flaws become apparent and I just give up playing it and go back to W11. As another reviewer stated this game is easy to pick up and play but in the long run the better you get at it the less rewarding it is. If you want to play the most accurate simulation of soccer and enjoy a game with long-lasting appeal stick to Winning Eleven. |
