4.0 out of 5 stars Better, but still not as goosd as WE/PES
I have been bying FIFA since 2002, and by farthis is the best one of them. But still, it is missing the realistic ball control and the really good way of difinition WE/PES have. They still haven't eliminated those spots where you just have to shoot and it will always go in. Its just annoying to see the same goal over and over again. Although I liked that now the referee...

I am neither a PES/WE/ FIFA fanboy.

I own every FIFA since FIFA '97.

Some years have been great (98,99,01,05), but there has been the odd crap one (02)

Lets start off with the good.

Some years have been great (98,99,01,05), but there has been the odd crap one (02)

Lets start off with the good.

The graphics. They are great, and possibly the best footy graphics we'll get this-gen.

The licensing is great, but the player haistyles are old, and it would've been nice to see an option to change hairstyles. But you CAN changes stats and give players Edgar Davids style glasses.

The gameplay, while good, never has much space to sprint, and when ever you do, its slow. Even when you are a speedy player like Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo, the defender always catches you.

Also, some people complain about AI glitches. These are ONLY present on the 2 easier difficulty levels and disapear on the harder ones.

Which brings me to my next point. On the easiest difficulty, you can score great goals from outside the box, aswell as headers, tap-in's, etc. One the hardest difficulty level you can only score headers. Seriously. If you are in the box and hit a perfectly timed shot, the keeper punches it away for a corner.

Oh, and two-player games are great fun.

So, get it for the licencing. It's catching up on Pro Evo too!

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the Fun Factor?, April 15, 2006

I gave up my FIFA 03 in favour of this one and boy do I regret it. It's slow, the computer chooses your defenders, your passing options, why your headers are on target in easy mode but the same tactic never comes close in the more difficult modes. I bought this to have fun but when you've out-shot, out passed, out-possessed and out-tackled the opposition till kingdom come and still lose 1-0 because you're last man wouldn't tackle despite how many times you hit the button to switch defenders then it's time to swallow your pride and go dig up your FIFA 03 again. A good challenge in easy mode for the first little while but after that just bloody frustrating.

Although I liked that now the referee will call on the hands, though its a bit unfair, because there is no way to control your palyers hands. FIFA 06 is a fairly decent game, definitively an improvement. If you just can't wait till WE9/PES5 come out in USA or just don't want to get the japanese version of WE, I would recommend FIFA 06, but I would recommend even more to wait for WE9,I've played the japanese version and it is just awesome.

2.0 out of 5 stars a bundle of irritation, November 7, 2005
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2006 (Video Game)
This, more even than its predecessors, is a lazy game that swaps challenge for mere irritation. Players will run off in all directions without reason, and stop, pause, and turn the wrong way to miss key passes or interceptions; will take ten yards (no joke) to stop from a run; will simply ignore a clear pass to an open player, and substitute a silly pass to a distant player on the opposite side of the pitch; and a through-ball, if too good, will magically speed up halfway through (no joke), in order to get to the keeper before an onrushing forward. In other words, EA couldn't be bothered to develop a clever game - instead, in order to make it competitive, they made it arbitrary, disingenuous, and utterly stupid.

*Re-submitting my review with the originally intended overall 3 stars rating*. Sorry about the mistake.
It's a FIFA licensed product. That means team names, players and uniforms are accurate. When it comes to realism, that's a real big advantage over all other games on the market. The presentation is great and the graphics are superb, especially the players. The whole thing really looks like a TV broadcast. That, in itself, makes FIFA 06 an enjoyable game. But...Boy, is this a a slow game or what? Even when players are running at full speed, they seem to be in slow motion. Yet, it will take them forever to slow down and turn. Very frustrating if you are, like me, used to games like WE where players move at a much more realistic pace. I am an addicted WINNING ELEVEN franchise player, so, of course, I am biased. But I did give FIFA 06 a fair try. I enjoyed it for a while but went right back to WE. When the speed problem is fixed, I think the FIFA serie will be much more competitive and will give the WE franchise a run for its money.

this game is horrible! The players' movement is so weird and it takes about 10 yards for a player to stop running. Don't get this game. its a waste of money. instead, get Winning Eleven 9. its only $40 and its so much better than fifa and its probably the best game in the world. (...) the best soccer game in the world (...)

2.0 out of 5 stars traded game within a week, April 30, 2006

= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2006 (Video Game)
The graphics and commentary in this game are great however the gameplay is terrible. I have owned all of the Fifa titles since 2003. The offense is very difficult to control, the players movements are slow and it seems that it takes several seconds for the players to react to your keys when you press a button and by then it is too late (passing, stopping, etc). Also, unlike the other past Fifa titles, I spent at least 80 to 90% of my time playing defense and it's almost impossible to get the ball down to the oppenents goal to score because they always seem to strip the ball away from you. I also own the Winning Eleven 9 soccer series. Although it's more expensive that Fifa 2006, I would highly recommend it over this year's Fifa game. After owning Fifa 2006 for less than a week, I traded it. If your are still thinking about buying this game, rent it first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some People Need to Learn How to Play the Game, September 15, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2006 (Video Game)
I have played this game for a few months now, and I have found no problems that are worth trading the game in. The action is not as slow as some people are saying; that must be their hardware that is causing the slowdown. I have never had a problem on either mine or my friend's ps2.

The graphics are amazing. The one who commented on the hairstyles is correct (Zidane has a little TOO much hair) but this does not take away from the gameplay or the fun.

Someone also commented on the ability to tackle... it's called the "O" button, buddy. That's how you take the ball away. There's a slide tackle option and a regular tackling option. He just hasn't found it on his controller.

Also, in reply to another comment, you can score from anywhere if you have the right player. Ronaldinho, Zidane, and Henry can pretty much place the ball wherever they want.

I am not a huge soccer fan, never played it in my life except for random pickup games. I do get pumped about World Cup every 4 years and the Summer Olympics, but that's about it. So, even if you aren't a soccer fan, this is still a game that you will enjoy. It is also very good for multiplayer purposes.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest among all the others, August 2, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2006 (Video Game)
I've been playing Fifa since its first launch and ever since I'm a huge Fifa fan. I would like to comment on its constant comparison with WE. They all have their +/- but to me, Fifa's best attribute is that it allows you to play your perfect game where on WE, the flaws of the game are too clear and too realistic. Some may like it but to me I want to enjoy my game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice But Could Be Better!, May 1, 2006
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 2006 (Video Game)
This game is very nice on the presentation.Lots of teams and players that i dont think one can find on other football games.
But one problem its gameplay should have been better.Scoring goals is a major problem you will end up with scorelines such as 1-0 0-0 etc.
The manager mode is very nice and the fifa lounge is also a nice addition.
Some very good trax.
It needs improvment on the gameplay and should improve looking at all the other nice footie games such as pro evo.Get this game if u like challenges because its tough and takes some time to adapt to its gameplay if u want to score those amazing 20-30 yard goals then this game aint for you.
