I bought this for my niece for her birthday a few weeks ago. She loves it!! (I also find it pretty entertaining--shh, don't tell anyone!) The toy works great--I'm not sure why the other reviewers had issues as this has not been my experience, but you do have to say specific phrases and you have to speak when the belly button light is on. We especially love the "Dance with me!" feature...we have a mini-dance party every time I come over. I also really love the material the doll is made of--jelly, squishy, fun to squeeze. I'm actually going to get the Logan Fijit for my friend's daughter...her name is also Logan! Love it!

My 11 yo just had to have this for her birthday. I was skeptical that she'd be a little on the old side of the targeted market but actually I think it works that she is older. At this tween age she is less about playing for hours on end and more about turning Serafina on to say goodnight, dance or to say hello in the morning. She likes showing her off to her friends and Serafina is a big hit with them. She likes that she looks cute sitting on her bedside table. I do think she is a definitely more fairly priced now (under $40). She is truly interactive and obviously at the under $50 price break you get what you pay for - a cheaper interactive toy that isn't true robotic perfection. Still in my opinion she does what she is advertised to do as long as you change out her demo batteries to nicer batteries. Addressing the battery draining comments - I put a set of Duracel batteries in her mid September and she is still going strong with some sort of daily play. She isn't slowing down yet.

She is surprisingly squishy and soft. She is easily wipeable. Her construction seems to be sound. She doesn't come across as cheap in terms of construction. She'd hold up well even with a young child.

My almost 8 year old wants the same toy in a different color for her birthday. I was waiting to see how my 11 yo liked her before I made the final decision to gift her to my younger daughter. She's a keeper - she'll be a hit with her too.

Finally, as a side note my 10 month old great niece absolutely adores this toy! She loves watching Serafina in the dance mode and it held her attention for a very long time. Anyone with a toddler knows this is a true feat! While I wouldn't hand her over to a toddler, I'm glad we have her around for toddler entertainment too when the need arises.

I bought the Fijit for my daughter after a friend of mine who had bought it for her daughter recommended it. We couldn't be happier, so I am surprised to read other people's negative reviews. I think people need to remember that this is a toy, not a human being :). We did have some problems with voice recognition at first, but once I changed the batteries it worked fine. My daughter can't get enough of this toy, and its a great way to keep her entertained and happy while I cook dinner or get things done around the house. I also love that this toy is interactive and my daughter LOVES to dance so this gets her up and dancing and singing around the living room. It's really cute.

My daughter saw this on TV...she had to have it. She is 6, I made a deal that we would split the cost, so we did. Poor thing, she even wants to return it now. It claims it will say 150 things, well it does not, it will tell you the same things over and over. It continually says, "What you want to do now, huh?"...then you get 3 choices..tell me a joke, dance with me and chat with me....when you ask these things it has about 3-5 things it will respond with in each mode, after 1 hour we had heard it all, maybe several times. If it did what it said, it would be very cute, but it does not. The second day we changed the batteries, because it would stop dancing after 3 seconds when starting to dance to one song...or wouldn't reply properly when you ask it to do something at the proper time.Ie: Tell me a joke, she would say, knock-knock, my daughter would say, "Who's there?", she would tell her..."You should say who's there silly"-UGH!
Read this review to your daughter when she begs you for this!

My niece and nephew can't stop playing with it. Needed to change the batteries (they come with cheapo batteries) and say the specific phrases on the instructional card (can't just say "chat" - need to say "chat with me"). Super cute.

So the most common complaints I have heard are that the toy does not recognize phrases or doesn't respond correctly etc. So here is the problem. You have to READ the directions. There is a little light on the belly that LIGHTS UP after the Fijit responds or asks you a question, that is the cue to you or your child to then respond back to your Fijit. If you don't speak loud enough, clear enough, then naturally it's not going to respond correctly. So is this a toy for little ones with speech that us mom's find endearing? Probably not, but if you want to play with your child with this toy, then it's perfectly fine. My 2 year old LOVES this toy and so do my 5, 9, and 10 year olds. It's taken a beating down the staircase numerous times and works great still so is it durable? YOU BETCHA! My only problem with it is that it runs through batteries like kids through Halloween candy. Glad the price dropped on it. It was overpriced, but now that its under the forty dollar mark I think it's worth it.

We got this for our daughter. After an hour of repeating or not responding I began to look online for problems (should have read reviews before purchase). Then I find out that we needed to change batteries to fix the problem. Great, so I did. When the batteries were replaced it was still a 50/50 shot at getting the thing to do what we wanted. I know I have read that it will say jokes. I have only heard one....8 times. After 20 minutes of use while doing what it was suppose to do, my daughter is bored of it. Because she has done everything that it will do. So for 50 dollars I got an hour of frustration and 20 minutes of use and a few days as a paperweight. I could think of other things to spend that money on like an hour with a shrink. Would have gotten more out of it.

Should be price tag of 15 dollars. More worth the headache. So my humble opinion...DONT BUY IT!!! BORROW ONE THERE ARE LOTS OUT THERE NOT BEING USED. TRUST ME.

Product is buggy and does not function as described. Repeats the same lines over and over (nowhere near the claimed 150 built-in phrases and jokes) and 9 out of 10 times it does not follow voice commands. For example, the doll would ask "what do you want to do today" and my daughter would respond "let's talk" and more often than not, it would just repeat itself. Also, when we tried to initiate the dance function it would ask for music, but then it wouldn't even dance to it. The doll repeated the same 3 phrases for each function (jokes, talk, dance, and sing). Instructions were followed and new batteries were tried, but nothing worked. My 6 year old daughter got really frustrated with it after an hour of use. I thought I just needed to show her how to use it, so I read all the instructions, but I had the exact same results. And no, it was not set to demo mode.

We've had this toy for over a year now and it has never worked right. My daughter asked me to "fix" it this Thanksgiving and I gave it my best but it refuses to respond to commands. I'm a US Born and naturally speaking citizen and have excellent enunciation. This toy frustrates my 4-year-old daughter to no extent. DO NOT BUY THIS! If you own one we suggest using a staircase to talk to the device with a completely quiet room. This has been the ONLY environment it has worked in for adults and it NEVER works for kids.

As a parent who likes happy kids this has been a disappointing gift that was given by a grandparent so it is now going to the grandparents house as a source of frustration for them. Wonderful idea with absolutely no quality control on this product... maybe it doesn't speak English as a first language?
