I spent hours looking and reading reviews for this MP3 player, first of all i didn't find as many reviews as I would have liked... I took my chances and bought it. I was very excited about what this product offered, I received it 2 days ago, read carefully the manual (which consists on a single page) and put it on the test yesterday (on a swimming pool... which is a much less hostile situation than the scenarios on which the product is supposed to work on -like surfing or kayaking-), longstory short: it got ruined 1 minute after it touched water. I have completely lost faith in this product and company and I hope to get my money back. Really a bad product, to state that this waterproof MP3 can endure through a surfing session or a daily swimming rutine is a joke.

I purchased 2 of these for my nephew and his best friend, the first one worked fine until it needed a recharging, after that it stopped working. The second failed out of the box.

Too expensive for what I got, the idea of the product is excellent. The worst thing about it was that on the first week of using it, the wire started to give me headaches because it broke inside the rubber protection and the sound started to fail, may be a better wire would do... but in the mean time I wasted my time and money buying this product.

I am terribly disappointed in this product. I used it all of two minutes during an aqua jog and it kept repeating the same song again and again, no matter what I did. I read all of the instructions, so was well versed in how the folders should have acted like playlists and how which buttons swapped playlists and so on. After the initial charge, my Mac computer didn't even recognize the device anymore. I sent this bad boy back to Amazon. Maybe a little "waterproof baggie" for my iPod will have to suffice. ugh.

Money well spent. I take aqua aerobics and this is a great item to have when you are jumping around in the pool. I am a big woman and the armband fit my arm with no problems. It's a little hard to work. I can't figure out how to turn the shuffle feature on even though the directions say to just press 2 buttons at the same time. Other than that it was easy to load music and easy to use and sounds great. If you spend a lot of time in the pool like myself. GO FOR IT!!!

after a while, the sound would go out.
when I fiddled with the wire, the sound would go in and out.
if I held the wire in a certain position I could get continuous sound. but then of course I couldn't swim.
in other words, the wire kept breaking.
I returned the unit two times before finally giving up.
I wouldn't recommend this item

Despite the mixed reviews for this on Amazon, I decided to try an XtreaMP3 player because I've liked previous Finis waterproof MP3 players. I bought two units, and after two weeks the earbuds on both failed to receive sound on one side. I started a support ticket at the Finis website in July; Finis promised to replace the earbuds, but I've heard nothing and received nothing.

Previous units included a separate charging cable that fit into a snug watertight door. This unit has a tiny USB connector with an attached cable about half an inch long; it's meant to fold up into a slot on the rear of the unit and be covered by a flexible plastic cover that does not seat itself tightly into the slot. The upshot is that the USB connectors corroded by this week, and the units won't charge or dock with the computer. I added all this to my Finis support ticket, tried their Live Chat ("No one is available."), and tried their 800 number ("Leave a message.") -- all during their business hours. I will update this review if I receive a response.

It's a pity because while the units worked, the playback was excellent, though I prefer third-party headphones.

UPDATE (7 Sep 2012) Finis did replace my 2-gb. players with 1-gb. models and cautioned me to rinse and dry the units after each immersion, saying that it's the chlorine, not the water itself, that corrodes the metal connectors. This prompted me to ask if I should limit their exposure to chlorinated water and if so, what would be the recommended time limit. I never received an answer, so to play it safe, I keep the unit in a waterproof bag at the pool unless I'm using it. All the same, I worry that the chlorine will do its damage with only minimal exposure, so I use the player for only short periods. This is a decided drawback.

I swim regularly for exercise and a couple of people at the pool had the Finis Swimp3. I listened to them and they really lacked any bottom end. The sound really dropped off when your head was not under water. So I thought I'd try the Finis ExtreamP3 since it had ear buds. I paid extra to have them overnighted and was unable to get them to work. I called customer support and they called back a few hours later. (I found out there is only one guy in customer support) I had to change up my iTunes settings and I couldn't have done it just from the instructions - woefully inadequate. So I finally got it working and swam once with them. They didn't sound much better than the Swimp3. No bass at all and they almost sounded monophonic. Very one-dimensional. Very disappointed. Then the unit wouldn't charge. I tried for 3 days charging all night. No tunes. So I called customer support again. They are supposed to get back in touch with you within 24 hrs. This time that meant the next day when I was at work. I tried numerous times to call and get an answer but - you guessed it- the dreaded recording - we will get back to within 24 hrs. Well that is not customer support to me. They are on their way back to Amazon for a refund. Hopefully THEY will come through.
