So I got the product in the mail, skeptical since I read so many negative reviews on this product; but I'm very tech-savvy and putting music on the FinisMp3 was very simple, I basically drag the MP3 file and drop it into the Removable folder for the FinisMp3 player. I charged the product for 2-3 hours before use so that it can function at full ability.

After loading on the music, I turn the device on and you can hear the music when you press play, and this baby is loud! I knew instantly it would be awesome at noisy pools, etc. Strapped this bad boy to my googles, I placed them near my ear but not on my ear since that would be irritating. As soon as you enter beneath the water or over the water the music is crisp, and it seems like the entire pool is playing music, it's kind of neat when you first go under water and hear it.

These are very lightweight, and the sound is awesome underneath the water, some people complain about the lack of "bass" I didn't seem to have that problem, the sound is very clear, and it has a kick to it. I honestly can't wait to swim every day now. I swam in high-school but wanted to get back into it, this is the reason why I will lose the rest of my weight; and get back in the shape I need. I'm glad I took the risk and made this purchase, it's well worth it. Plus if you don't like it, Amazon has awesome customer service, they'll make sure you are a satisfied customer. What's to lose? Nothing

Here is to happy swimming, Go Team USA.

I didn't believe the bad reviews since the good reviews were so good.
I only tried ONE finis swimp3 instead of sending it back again and again to try for a replacement that worked. My experience was the same as other negative reviewers and I decided to get a refund rather than continue to mess around with a clearly defective product with lousy customer service.

If you get the product, they'll send a yellow piece of paper saying there's a firmware update that has been installed and if you have problems just fill out a support ticket at [...] or call a phone number. No one answers the phone. I filled out a ticket.

For the FIRST support ticket, I explained the problem. I got an automated response saying I would get a response within 48 hours. I got a response 2 days later asking what the problem was. I had already written what the problem was in the original ticket but I wrote it AGAIN. I got instructions on how to try to do a firmware update.

The firmware update didn't work .... in part because the device would not CHARGE or TURN ON. I put this in the ticket when they sent the firmware update.

I wrote a SECOND support ticket asking them to please answer the content of the ticket and not simply send the firmware update instructions. They sent the firmware update instructions without addressing the content of my ticket and request for help.

At this point, I reread the reviews where people wrote about spending lots of time getting replacement devices, trying to install firmware updates or work with the company. I decided to cut an run after spending only a week and about 7 hours of my time on this defective product.
I sent it back for a refund.

The Finis Swimp3 player takes the monotony out of my daily swim routine - it's tough to swim without it any more. For about three years now I have been swimming with a "waterproof" MP3 player. I am on my third Finis Swimp3 and I have been thru two waterproof Apple ipod shuffles. To give you an idea about how much usage I give these devices I swim almost every day for about 50 minutes a day. The not so good news is: yes, these things stop working with irritating frequency and they need to be replaced. The good news is that it's a real pleasure to swim with these devices. Since I've used both of these devices I can comment on the advantages and disadvantages of each:
1) Waterproof-ness: I'd give a clear advantage to the Finis Swimp3. With my waterproof ipod shuffle I tried at least three different "waterproof" earbud brands / styles and always, always had leakage problems in my right ear. With the Finis Swimp3 you just strap them on and go, no messing around trying to ensure a snug fit with the earbuds.
2) Sound quality: Here I'd have to say advantage to the Apple ipod shuffle. If you've got a good pair of earbuds like the Surge h2oaudio you will get very good sound quality. If my right ear had sealed with the earbud as well as my left ear, I might still be swimming with the ipod shuffle... but you can't hear a thing when your ear fills up with water due to leaky earbuds.
3) Ease of control usage: Neither device is great, but I'd say the advantage goes to the Finis Swimp3 player in this category. At least the Finis has buttons that you can memorize where they are and learn the not so obvious button combinations for playlist change or shuffle / non-shuffle mode. The ipod shuffle just has a ring which has no tactile indicator of which direction is forward / backward or louder / quieter.

Reading about the problems this model has exhibited, I ordered the previous model from another site. However they sent me 3 of this model WITH the firmware update. I decided to see if maybe all the complaints about the drive not showing up on Macs was true. It was. Two of the three would not show on the desktop on any of 4 computers running different systems nor in Disk Utility. They lit up as if charging and in fact probably were but since they couldn't be seen I could not load music on them. When removed from the computer one would not even turn off and stayed lit.

I have had two of the blue/white earlier models that worked flawlessly for about 3 years each (one is still working) so I'm not a newbie to using these. Obviously there is something seriously wrong with the compatibility issue and the new models. I think that is why Amazon has reduced the price on these lately.

I decided to keep the one that did show on the desktop and will report back if it holds up. The whole concept of the bone conduction is wonderful and I hate to swim without it since I put in about 4-5 miles a week. So my low score is for this particular version and not the idea itself.

Hello "kbear",

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the product. If you are willing to "Create a New Support Ticket" on our website we will be able to process your information and make things right for you. If you let me know that you have completed this step, we will pull you through the system faster. Here is a link to that site, the tab you need is on the left: http://www.finisinc.com/support/electronics/swimp3/

If you follow this step and then give me your information, we can find you in the service queue.

After reading this post we did a few checks of our own this morning. First, make sure the SwiMP3 is plugged directly into your USB port and not into another device or extension. You also may have issues if your USB port is used often, as it can sometimes loosen the fit around the SwiMP3. Secondly, if there is any corrosion or buildup on your SwiMP3 it will cause the unit to be unreadable. Try these first, and if you wish, fill out a Support Ticket.

Thank you for your support of our products.
