This review is from: THE FIRE ANTS (Paperback)
I picked up this book in a garage sale since it was part of a collection of books and put it in my to be read stack. When this book finally made its way to the top of the stack I gave it a shot.

The book starts out with the death of a investigator/scientest who studies fire ants and their lifestyles and goes down hill from there. The preacher "rallys" the churchgoers after the second person dies, (a lovely teenage girl who decided to make whoopie to her boyfriend, who she hasnt seen in several months so, after a night of drinking they decide to go out in the field and make love. The poor girl is killed by the bites from the fire ants and the boyfriend suffers several bits to his arms. he lives she dies.) The preacher blames the girl for dying due to her 'fornicating' with a man and going against the word of God. The preacher then decides to hold a prayer meeting at a hotel owned by the local senator, when he and his followers are turned away they hold it in the middle of the road outside the hotel.

The book goes downhill fast from there as the religious tone and the preacher's fever for god basically takes over the book and the battle between the preacher and the senator's security manager is pushed to the forefront and the fireants are pushed to a concept that is only brought out when the author need to remind the reader about them. As IF the mini dialoge starting each chapter isnt annoying enough.

Avoid this book if you see it or give it to someone you dont like or is a hardcore religious person.
