Lit up in the store at purchase.

What happens is one led shorts or at least its forward voltage drops considerably, hogging all the current and keeping the other leds from lighting.

Company will only replace it at the time you first remove it from the box and discover that it doesn't work.

I own one of the 7-led versions of this product. It is a neat idea, and looks cool when it works. Unfortunately it has only worked for short periods of time. I've repaired it by replacing an led when they all went out.
The leds are connected parallel, each with a dropping resistor. Applying a little DC to the dead string, they all lit up, but the bad one flickered then died.
I replaced it, but soon another one died, again killing the whole string. Replaced 4 leds, one by one, then all of them, with a slightly whiter type led.
What happens is one led shorts or at least its forward voltage drops considerably, hogging all the current and keeping the other leds from lighting.
Tests have shown that over time, the forward voltage of these leds drops, and also the reverse voltage drops even more.
I think what happens is that the leds are always sitting at the edge of turning on, and the one led with the lowest forward voltage is the most stressed, experiencing ion migration while it is idle, with high humidity, outside day and night.
The way the generator is designed, it has a reverse-voltage protection diode, which I think is not needed. I replaced this diode with a 1 megohm chip resistor, so that when the unit is idle, the capacitor drains away and voltage is not stressing the led.
I only just did the draining resistor fix. Until I replace all the rest of the led's I can't say it's a solution, but it makes sense to me. I wonder if they still make this product, or went bust from all the warranty returns!

Very poor product. Lit up in the store at purchase. Has not lit up since. No support resources available in the box or on the web. I would pass.

Verified Purchase
We purchased this through Amazon a month ago, and see now there's a Customer who had an issue where it did not light up. The one we received works fine and it lights up whenever it spins. When it gets really windy the effect is fantastic!

It looks like I will have to downgrade this. It is the end of April and I just noticed that it still spinning but no longer lights up. For 100 bucks it should last longer than a few months.
