It was the BEST!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: FIRST BORN (Paperback)
I truly loved the whole plot of this book. The separate stories from each of the women's lives were fascinating. The history of the family was discussed at appropriate points. This book would actually make a great TV movie. I am surprised that nobody has thought of making the movie. There are plenty of actresses who would be terrific in the parts of the four women.

I know this book has been around for almost 2 decades and I am know finally reading it. WOW!!!!!! This book had me crying, cursing, loving and hating with every line I read. The characters and the plot were outstanding. I do hope one day they do make it into a movie or TV miniseries, but when they do I hope they do the book justice and capture every detail that Doris Mortman wrote down. Fantansic job!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK!!

This is absolutely without a doubt the best book I have ever read. I have never had a book be able to make me laugh and cry like this book did. These womens stories were truly touching and extremely well written. I could not put this book down! I was up til 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning reading this book a couple nights.

Doris Mortman is definitely an author to re-watch with this riveting soap opera tale of lost souls trying to make it in FIRST BORN, the author's second New York Times best-seller. The four ladies in question all suffer greatly in the name of love. But a revealing secret to one of them puts her right at the forefront as she investigate the missing link to her own past. Spanning two decades with chapters spotlighting on each protagonist, FIRST BORN never strays from its purpose of entertaining. All four women's stories captivate with a capital C, from a down on her luck black sheep to an insecure but oh-so beautiful movie (and later TV) star. Of course, the novel could have benefit some favorable cut here and there, and the decision of some of the heroines could have been less, how shall we say... foolish, but these so-called blunders pales in comparison to the riveting way the author succeeds in making her story work. You'll be glad to having made it through the hefty 800-ish page paperback. Powerful, occasionally touching but always narratively effective FIRST BORN can only be best described as the 1987 novel that sure deserves a second wind. Go get a copy now.-----Martin Boucher

"First Born" was entertaining. It reminded me of one of those primetime soaps from the 80's with all the glitz and backstabbing.
I wasn't into the descriptions of the fancy settings or clothes and the love scenes were typical for this type of book. Also everyone has perfect hair, perfect body, beautiful eyes....etc.... As a whole, I'd say "First Born" was a page turner and a good book to take you away.
