I decided to keep it for myself, and ended up ordering another copy for my son!

What stood out most for me besides the clear, concise and accessible fitness info is the excellent writing style of the author.

on a personal note, I should say up front that I know Christopher - he taught me how to run. during years of running in sports and in the military, I never felt like I had the proper form, despite following the advice of different running coaches I met. I sought Christopher out for some Pose running sessions in LA (where he is a personal trainer as well as author) and he delivered far more than I expected. he taught me how to run using gravity for acceleration. it was the way he delivered concepts that made running click for me, and I think that's the strength of this book as well. the first time I read it I thought "wow, I've read tons of fitness books and they all seem the same - this one is different." I just flipped through it again and I think the reason it's different is that Christopher takes the time to explain fundamental principles in a clear way. He has an understanding of all the different things that go into fitness, as well as all the ways fitness interconnects with the rest of life. there are so many angles covered, from detailed pictures of exercises, to self-hypnosis and inner game, to scientific studies of sleep. I also liked that Christopher frequently tells stories to illustrate the evolution of his thinking on various topics. some of the stories are quite funny, such as when he tells of his first yin yoga class, where he sat between two women he calls "glamour and granola." the yin yoga sequence is the part of the book that I use the most, because it is so simple and relaxing. I'm glad to see that this book has already gotten great reviews - I second that, and highly recommend it.

What stood out most for me besides the clear, concise and accessible fitness info is the excellent writing style of the author. His writing is superb. It's as much a life coaching manual as it is a fitness book. Tony Robbins in bare feet. (Pose versus poseur). The narrative carries the reader along with great anecdotes and intelligent, factually supported reasons why we should be incorporating at least some level of fitness into our daily regimes. No excuses accepted. What came to light at the very end of my reading was just how accomplished Drozd has been in the fitness world as shown in his credentials section at the end of the book but never once did he flaunt that to impress or intimidate the reader throughout. Based on the photos, even at age 50, Drozd personifies the healthy fitness lifestyle he guides the reader towards which cements his credibility and serves as the motivation to incorporate a greater level of fitness in my life. This book makes a great gift for anyone you care about as well.

Best Fitness book by far I have ever put in my hands!!! whether you are a top athlete in your field or a stay at home Mom, this will help you become more fit... already following the suggestions and applying them to my daily life, making the sportsdrinks and doing the exercises featured in the book, people keep telling me how much different I am, I can't stop telling people how much difference it has made...the best part is I own my own business, stay real busy, have no time for working out, but after reading the suggestions in Fitness straight up, I have made the choice to incorporate some of the exercises in to my daily work schedule at lunch, during the day taking short breaks and learned that I really do have some time if I CHOOSE to have the time...everything is laid out in the book for you to apply, at your convenience, if you start you will find yourself living a healthier, happier, and definitely a more comfortable lifestyle..

I just finished Fitness Straight Up and found it engaging and informative. Christopher makes improving your health and your body seem attainable goals, no matter what your age or when you start! The book is very informative from both a macro level, as well as providing detailed instructions regarding nutrition, workouts and the mental aspects of changing habits. I liked the friendly tone, filled with personal anecdotes and useful tips, like he was just talking to a friend! I am not an athlete and don't need to look like one, but as I move into another decade, I realize I do need to raise my consciousness, change some habits and increase my activity. This book has inspired to do all that and I am buying an excercise ball and another copy of the book.

As a serious triathlete, I always look to enhance my knowledge for the ultimate goal of the healthiest life style possible and practical. Over the last 14 years, I have been coached by several gifted athletes, however, I always strive to enhance my own knowledge to achieve the optimum fitness goals. "Fitness, Straight-Up" by Christopher Drozd has been a gift. I have read it twice, and have already picked up several points that will help me do better for 2012 calendar year. This book can teach a beginner how to start a good health and fitness program, also assist a pro on how to take it to the next level. I highly recommend this book, and consider it a very valuable resource.

Chris Drozd tells you everything you need to know about taking your athletic ability to the next level; diet, psychology, periodization, yoga, and more. Most personal trainers take an "online" course and think they know everything. You can't teach someone how to bench press 500lbs if you have never done it. You can't teach someone how to train for a marathon if you haven't done it. Chris is certified in everything and lives each chapter everyday... that is what I look for in a coach. I read his book hoping I would learn something I missed over the years and I did. His writing style is quite brilliant... I'm Sports Conditioning Certified and I couldn't put his book down.
