Editorial Reviews

Some people will do anything to maintain the appearance of youth as can be seen in this stomach-churning, off-beat horror movie. The tale centers on Dr. Elaine Frederick (played by Veronica Lake who hadn't appeared in a film for 22 years), a plastic surgeon in Miami. She is a former mental patient and has a rather unique way of operating upon her aging patients: first she has specially bred maggots munch away all of the old skin, and then she reconstructs the face. Her practice is thriving and she remains mentally stable until she takes a good look at her newest patient and discovers that he is Adolf Hitler. Unfortunately for him, Frederick's mother died in one of his concentration camps. Now the Dr. uses her carnivorous worms to get graphic, gruesome revenge upon the deposed madman. - All Movie Guide - Flesh Feast is classic low-budget, campy drive-in horror featuring Veronica Lake after a 22 year film break in her final screen performance as Dr. Elaine Frederick.

3.0 out of 5 stars The last of La Lake, August 2, 2011
This review is from: FLESH FEAST aka TIME IS TERROR (VHS Tape)
Indeed it's a low budget horror flick, but it's none the less the very last screen appearance of the legendary Veronica Lake.
Lake started out in films at age 17 in 1939, and in the 40's she was a glamourous star as well as a good and competent actress. After "Ramrod" in 1951, she left film and did some theater work for a time.
In 1963 she was discovered working as a coctail waitress in the bar of a cheap, low down hotel. This gave her a lot of press, and she subsequently wrote an autobiography.

As stated above, that this was her first movie in more than 20 years - that is actually wrong. She did star in a very little known movie called "Footsteps in the snow" (it might be Canadian?) in 1966 before starring in "Time is terror" three years later. Info on that film has so far eluded me, but some sources claim it's another title for the film "Flesh Feast"...

So what do you get here? In 1970, Lake looked far older than her 49 years, with badly stained teeth and a not too becoming stiffly curled, listerine yellow hairdo. What gripped me the most, was that after learning of her years in poverty, her bouts of alcolholism and all her bad luck, she still gambled on her former fame, and that is probaly the reason she made this film... It's sort of an entertaining movie, cheply made - but OK. After this, Lake never worked again, and she died at age 55 from acute hepatitis and alcohol related problems. A sad ending indeed for one of the truly great glamour godesses of the war years

2.0 out of 5 stars Hitler died from maggots?, October 23, 2008

I saw the poster for this movie and that's what made me want to watch it in the first place. The poster is pretty cool, this movie, however, is not. Nothing happens at all for a long time, then there's a body. Then nothing happens for a while longer, then Hitler comes in and is killed by flesh eating maggots. Very very boring. I can't recomend this at all
