4.0 out of 5 stars Most Excellent, October 30, 2001
This review is from: FLIPSIDE: Flipside (Audio CD)
This is an excellent CD. Each of the individual players are fantastic in their own right, and together they create some wonderful music. The drummer, Darren Beckett, has a very active style of play - it's as though he's not only keeping time, but continually soloing throughout the CD. Greg Tuohey, the guitar player and Jerome Sabbagh, the saxophone player bring a great sense of melody to the mix. They both play very inventive yet logical lines and express a sense of maturity well beyond their years. Matt Penman rounds out this quartet on bass, and helps tie it all together. If you like good, straight-ahead jazz with a modern edge, I highly recommend this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inside, April 16, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Flipside (Audio CD)
I have noticed that both previous reviews were for a jazz band that also goes by the name of "Flipside", however, this Flipside is the production team of Klaus Bau Jensen & Sebastian Lilja. If your are into the whole lounge/chill sound, then there is a chance you might have heard them somewhere, as they have been featured on quite a number of compilations.

"Inside" is made up of 10 tracks (11 on the Japan Import) that will sustain you through the hottest summer days and the coldest winter nights. For anyone who is a fan of lounge/chill music, you will really appreciate the ambient soundscape that is beautifully blended with classical guitars, also featured are minimalistic cello and piano work seasoned with some light trumpet and vocals.

If you are a fan of Bliss, then you will definitely want to pick this up since Klaus Bau Jensen had a helping hand in some of their work. Overall, everything about this album is brilliant, from the guitar work to the ambient aproach to classical music, this is an album that will carry you through the seasons.

Additionally, you might also want to look into Flipside's two other albums, "Deep", and ,"Presence". One more thing, as I state earlier in the review, there is a bonus track on the Japan Import of the album, "Part II", it runs a little over 5 minutes and fits in quite beautifully with the rest of the songs on the cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent contemporary jazz performance of original music, January 23, 1999

This review is from: FLIPSIDE: Flipside (Audio CD)
These talented musicians, 2 from New Zealand one from Ireland and one from France have put together their first album as this group. Compositions by Tuohy and Penman(New Zealanders) display innovative jazz style combining catchy lyrical themes that build nicely while allowing the musicians to display their not inconsiderable soloing techniques.Recommended listening.
