3.0 out of 5 stars Decent mystery, frustrating ending (mild spoiler) August 18, 2012
By KathyC
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this story and especially the setting. As a Central Florida resident, it's fun to read mysteries set in a familiar place. There were a lot of sub-plots, but they weren't too hard to follow. Most ended up connected in some way.

The most frustrating thing was the cliffhanger ending. One of the murders not only isn't solved, but a similar one occurs. There seems to be a trend lately with authors leaving you hanging at the end, possibly in an effort to get you to buy more of their books. A story should be able to stand on its own. If the writing is good and the characters are well developed, readers will want more from the author. This story was okay. Not great, but definitely kept my interest. I would have read more with these characters, but trickery such as this has the opposite effect on me. Rather than seek out another, I'll most likely avoid future stories by these authors.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great story - lousy "ending" June 2, 2013
By tvlgds
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wish I had read the comments about the cliffhanger at the end, although the author says at the end of the book that the 2nd book will be out "in the fall." I'd assumed fall of 2012 since this one was released in Jun 2012. I came here today to get book 2, but it's nowhere to be found. The story ended at a critical point and I am not happy. It is highly unlikely that I will purchase the 2nd book. It's a shame, because it is a riveting story, but it abruptly ended leaving the readers hanging. The intent will likely backfire on the author, based on the comments I'm seeing here, as well as my own.

Good reading but I am not real big on cliff hangers unless I have the next story ready to read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vulgar May 16, 2013
By Teresa
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I realize a lot of books have cursing in them. Sometimes I can get past that if the words are used sparingly. This was not the case for this book. I managed to read 6 pages before I couldn't take the "gd's" and "mf's" any more. I doubt I will purchase this author again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Florida Heat July 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Just finished Florida Heat and I am total upset by the ending. How can you start a book with a murder and never tell who the murderer is at the end. This is not a cliff hanger. This is just stupid. I can live with the teacher's murders as cliff hangers for the next book even though I agree that a book should stand on it's own. My wife laughed everytime I tried to explain that there were three or four plots going at one time and trying to remember all the characters was worse. It's lucky the book was free or I would be after Amazon to give me my money back. As it is I wasted two days reading a book with no ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for Part 2 June 21, 2012
By Angie B
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this book and the second promises to be even better. Rainy's first shot at a Mystery and she did a great job of entwining characters, keeping the question of "who done it" in mind, and her research was fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Never disappoints June 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Ms. Kirkland's first venture into a mystery/thriller rates attention. Her research is, as always, excellent and the descriptions top drawer. Take a look.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but not a thriller
A well written book but not what I.d expected. It was not exciting. To much extraneous time spent on frivolous details.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tsk, tsk, tsk...(Beware SPOILERS)
Shame on the authors. This book did not conclude, it just stopped. This is not the definition of a cliffhanger. One of the main plots is the murder of Danny...never solved. Read more

Good read interesting characters will definitely continue with the series. Found it not to be too fantastical where you feel the author is taking poetic license a bit far out.
