5.0 out of 5 stars Flowerbeds and Borders in Deer Country
Very helpful and nice design. Even makes a nice gift. Thin book, yet covers everything.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Little, Too Incorrect
I live in deer country, and I've tried just about every 'deer-proof' plant and method of foiling these super garden chompers. This book may be helpful to someone who lives in a suburban home surrounded by neighbors and fences, but it certainly wouldn't be for anyone with a deer problem. I live in deer country, and I've tried just about every 'deer-proof' plant and method of foiling these super garden chompers. This book may be helpful to someone who lives in a suburban home surrounded by neighbors and fences, but it certainly wouldn't be for anyone with a deer problem. First, it's too short at slightly over 100 pages. Just too little information. Second, some of the information isn't helpful. Deer will eat any kind of dogwood, whether it's kousa or domestic. They will eat hollies and Oregon grape holly in the winter, sharp prickles and all. They'll denude and destroy junipers and bayberries in winter, as well. Rutgers University provides a more comprehensive (and free) list on the internet. Finally, some of the plant recommendations, like purple loosestrife, Japanese barberry, Russian olive and periwinkle are invasive species and shouldn't be planted at all.
