Book Description

November 11, 2008
Are you ready to have your rock ‘n’ roll world turned upside down? It’s not about sex and drugs—surprise!—it’s about healing. Join mini-van driving mom Laura Faeth, a life-long rock ‘n’ roll fan, as she suddenly finds herself in the throes of a metaphysical mid-life awakening with a well-known classic rock band.

A sometimes comic, often profound, always entertaining romp down the rabbit hole of alchemy, Tarot, psychic readings, secret societies, Buddy Ebsen dance moves, past lives, and other esoteric byways, this true mystical musical adventure reveals how one fan discovers her sense of self-worth, courage, and life’s purpose through the healing power of rock ‘n’ roll.

A smitten pop/rock fan since the 1970s, author Laura Faeth has dovetailed her love of music with a multi-decade spanning, in-depth exploration of metaphysical studies. This Amazonian spiritual seeker graduated Summa Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Oswego. Her practical life experience includes radio market research, sales, and publishing. She lives in Colorado with her husband, two daughters, and their pet guinea pig.

More About the Author

In 1990, I worked part time at a health club where she taught nutrition and weight-loss. Several co-workers turned her on to woo-woo icon Shirley MacLaine, and my interest in spirituality took off like a bat out of hell. For over 15 years, I dipped all of my toes, fingers and especially my head into the vast pool of metaphysics and alternative therapies. Everything from acupuncture to Reiki, to using vowel sounds as mantras has been tested or studied by this modern day holistic junkie. Though a die-hard spiritual seeker, I'm not your typical airy-fairy New Ager.

I did Manhattan as a Radio Market Research Analyst for a division of Katz Communications, at one time the leading media rep firm in the world and later was the first Market Research Director for KKXL/KZDG radio in Denver. I learned the art of paste-up while assisting the Director of Creative Services in the Professional Books division at McGraw-Hill, and helped the sales staff make oodles of money at New Hope Communications, publisher of Natural Foods Merchandiser and Delicious Living magazines in Boulder, Colorado. I have also been a media buyer, television sales assistant, and direct mail sales rep. Variety is the name of the game (I'm a Gemini...I can't help myself).

Long before I even knew what the word "media rep firm" meant, I loved music and played piano, French horn, acoustic and electric guitar. Though abysmally untalented in all things musical, listening to the radio didn't require much skill, and Rock n' Roll swept me off my feet along with millions of other teenagers in the 1970s. A well known rock band kept me rockin' as a fan for 25 years, and in 2002 at the age of 38, a mystical experience rocked me to my foundations.

For a split second, I knew the future, and my life's mission was revealed: I would write a book that had an uplifting message for the masses, and the message revolved around the hidden impact rock music has on our psyches. This was a real life episode of "Back to the Future" meets "Almost Famous" and proved to me that time is simply an illusion. Seven years later, the book exists in this dimension, and is entitled "I Found All the Parts: Healing the Soul through Rock 'n' Roll."

Looking back on my life's path, I now understand how my soul has always guided me to the people and places necessary to ultimately write this magnum opus. College offered an opportunity to shine, and in 1985 I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The State University of New York at Oswego with a B.A. degree in Communications and Broadcasting, and was elected to the Who's Who among Students in American Universities & Colleges. My favorite classes included public speaking, (I like to talk...a lot!) philosophy, and psychology.

I FOUND ALL THE PARTS: Healing the Soul Through Rock 'n' Roll

Reading Laura Faeth's publishing debut is like sitting down with an old friend who you haven't seen for ten years and listening to her recount an excellent adventure. Full of self-discovery and humor, this book entertains, enlightens, and makes you think! Her earnest quest to understand such matters as reincarnation and karma lead her on her very own magical mystery tour - and we get to go along for the ride.

I discovered this book via one of those same sort of synchronistic moments that she describes throughout, which allowed me to read it with my eyes wide open, remembering that there are no coincidences here!

Fascinating.

The fact that this all takes place against a background of rock & roll sets it apart from the many other "woo woo" books about spirituality that are already out there, and adds an element of fun, too.

While this journey is a profound exploration, the author also has a rare gift of not taking herself way too seriously. Sort of Deepak Chopra meets George Carlin. Now THAT is unique!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brave Journey, March 18, 2009
This review is from: I FOUND ALL THE PARTS: Healing the Soul Through Rock 'n' Roll (Paperback)
Laura Faeth brings the reader along on her intensely personal journey of self discovery through the music of her favorite rock band. A fascinating experience for the writer and reader alike. As someone who always stayed away from anything even remotely spiritual, I found myself absorbed in her travels of self discovery through rock and roll. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

"I Found All The Parts" encapsulates a fascinating journey of self-expression and discovery honed from numerous nights standing at the altar of "that band the author follows" and how those events caused author Laura Faeth to explore her existence and sense of self. As a fellow traveler on the decades long, strange road trip addicted to that same musical group, I was eager to delve into Ms. Faeth's fascinating take on life, love, lyrics and the nature of fandom. While the book might be a tad more satisfying to some readers had Ms. Faeth been able to name the objects of her affection, it is neither truly necessary to be a fellow follower of that act nor to even know who the band is to enjoy the author's crisp, jovial and often self-effacing banter.

We the readers have all likely experienced a fascination with some group or another who became our own personal rock gods, making the subject matter here universal. To my delight, I found the clever Ms. Faeth's faithful outing to be like that of a late evening chat with a beloved friend, one which recounts the trials of growing up "different" than other kids at that tender time in life when fitting in is all-important. Often during those challenging years, some of us fans fell in love with that great cavalcade of "non-threatening boys" featured in teen magazines, a phenomenon which has led me to ponder the nature of fandom and how it steers our youth, growth and understanding of the spiritual nature of unrequited love. As opposed to the myriad of trite and unseemly recountings of "groupies" (those young ladies who wished to sleep with their idols), "Found" instead illustrates the idyll of the artist/fan relationship. Throughout the history of rock'n'roll, millions of listeners have felt the healing effects of the music of their idols, yet rarely has anyone captured that sheer rapture more eloquently than does this author. Laura Faeth's trip through her metaphysical wonder world is unique, profound and never takes itself too seriously. "The men don't know but the little girls understand," it has been famously said. Too true.
