I have played golf for 45 years and my lowest handicap was 5.I have read and reread every single instructional book, including Hogan,Leadbetter,Ballard,Nicklaus,as well as The Golfing Machine
and The Search For The Perfect Golf Swing. My library has more golf books than I have had bogeys.I have also been to McLeans School at Doral three times. All said,I consider all of the above a complete waste of my time. Dante's clear and precise and simple explanation of how the golf swing works from a physical as well as a theoretical point of view, including the explanation of the Coefficient of Angular Momentum, has given me
a new life on the golf course.
My ball striking is pure,my confidence is high, and my mind is no longer paralyzed by hundreds of worthless swing thoughts.
I have zero interest in any more lessons from any pro,do not read golf magazines anymore, and scoff at the latest theories
which are created just to sell more books.
I cannot wait to get to the course just to hit balls and ingrain the four moves which, essentially, promotes a flat left wrist,a firm left side,a stable body over the ball, and most importantly, starting the downswing with your hips while completely leaving your arms and hands and shoulders behind.

The ball flight is absolutely the best I have ever witnessed with the least amount of effort. I am hitting each club at least one club longer with a lot less effort.

Finally, when a shot goes astray, you get instant feeedback as to the reason and you can fix it on the next shot.

If I swear by this book,it is because it has brought new life to my golf game and I finally have the tools to get down to a scratch golfer within a very short period of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dante's "Magic" is teaching new tricks to old dogs., June 28, 1999
By A Customer
I went from a 3 handicap in high school to what G.P.Wodehouse describes as a "goof". When I couldn't play every day my game went to pot. I had never developed a solid swing that I could repeat time after time, I was clueless. I am now 41 years old and this book changed my life. Well, my golf life at least. I love the game again. Joe Dante teaches the "magic moves" in a way even I can understand and I'm a hardheaded old dog to whom new tricks are hard to teach.

The key to golf is delivering the club head to the ball square to the target (accuracy) while generating maximum club head speed (distance). Dante's early wrist break method is the key to consistent accuracy. His lateral hip shift is no secret to golf but it is the key to clubhead speed. The magic is that Dante teaches these moves in such a clear and concise way that, if you follow directions and practice his method, you will improve your golf swing and scores!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Of The Best, March 7, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't usually (how about never!!) write book reviews; however, this is one book I feel like deserves my input. Being a golf book junkie, I feel like I am qualified to put in my two cents. For what it may be worth, this book, in my opinion, is the absolute best book that has ever been written in regard to helping golfers achieve success. Yes, there are other books that can technically explain various positions, etc, but this book by Dante gives you practical and easily understood instructions on improving/understanding the golf swing. Simply put, this book is the ONLY book I could unequivocally give a 5-star rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars The alternative golf swing that works, July 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a golf instructor based in New Zealand and purchased the book based on what I had read on some internet sites. The book advocated an early wrist break that is not commonly taught or known about.

Dan Shaugers/Mike Austin "How to Kill the Ball" and "21st Century Golf Swing" which I am an accredited teacher..... are the only other books that you will read that teach such an action with the wrists. Not only that we both teach lateral movements of the hips.

If you have purchased Dan's books you will certainly enjoy reading about Joe Dante's method.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the secret to golf, June 4, 2001
By A Customer
I just finish reading this book and by far it is the best book to date that i have read about golf. This book gives you the secret to hit the ball a long way just like the pro's do it, by using coam(coefficient of angular momentum). Also know as the delayed hit or lag that you here about all the time. This is how Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, David Duval Charles Howell And Paul Azinger and Ben Hogan ect... hit the ball so far when it looks like they are not trying. They accelarate the shaft length wise not across wich throws it off plane. Other books that teach this The golfing machine, by Homer Kelly, John Redman's Esentials of the golf swing also there is a video available on this web site called ultimate power golf swing that you can purchase to see it on video by an instructor named Bobby Shaffer. I have all three books and the video and this book explains this magic move the easiest over the golfing machine wich is complicated but tells you the secret just like Mr. Redmans book does also and recomend it to. The video will let you see this magic move over and over again. I look forward to using this book to help get down to single digit from my 18 handicap in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Instructional Book on the Golf Swing Ever Published, February 23, 1999
By A Customer
I've read many instructional books on the golf swing. I am proof that one can greatly improve their game through books and time on the practice range. I went from a 31 to a 7.5 handicap in less than 4 years without any lessons. I credit Joe Dante with the last 6 or 7 strokes of my improvement. The Four Magic Moves reveals the "trick" of the golf swing. Ever see a card trick or a magician act and wonder how the heck it was done. If the "trick" is revealed to you, its then obvious why it worked out. The Four Magic Moves is the only book out there that reveals the trick! If you are not already aware of this trick, it will have a dramatic effect on your game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally in the position to go after it, October 12, 2007
I bought Dante's book after connecting in spirit with the other customers here who bought it, found it worked, and shared their views. I'd watch the pros on TV and was always intrigued by that great position at the top with the flat wrist and the first move down. Getting the whole thing from the dead start to the top is a process that has never been adequately conveyed to me and absorbed by me...until I read this book. The meticulous treatment of the first move with the early wrist break to the top is a masterpiece of instruction for the lost soul. Don't rush your time spent reading and practicing Move Uno. Once you feel that sensation of owning your grip on the club with the hands set solid and perfectly at the top of your coil, you're about ready to trust Dante with your firstborn. Ahhh...so THIS is what a player's swing actually feels like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golf instruction that is understandable and actually works!, February 21, 2007
After enriching Amazon by purchasing just about every lame golf book manufactured I stumbled upon this gem. Mr. Dante explains in concise detail why traditional golf instruction/tips are faulty in that they rely on a fundamentally incorrect perception of what is going on in the swing. He further lays out the correct way of swinging a golf club that is shockingly clear, with appropriate and easy check points. Proof is in the pudding, after years of just flailing around with little or no improvement, (and hundreds of dollars spent for "golf" lessons.) I have made dramatic improvement to my golf game in a matter of months. Try it! Best $18.00 you will spend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best there is, June 12, 2004

I have been studying the game of golf for 27 years now, and I can talk from experience. It is very easy to become misled regarding the golf swing, and to meander down many roads to find the nuggets that will assist you in executing the swing correctly. I've been there and done that. This book clears away much confusion. The explanations of what to do to swing properly are unmatched. It is an enjoyable read and, to me, one of the best breaths of fresh air regarding golf that is available. Get this book and work with it if you want to bring your scores down, and hopes up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Techniques finally explained!, February 12, 2007
I thought I had enough of golf instruction books, having read so many in my life. I've also purchased videos and online "ebooks" and finally I've found the book that explains how to use my hips in the golf swing. This has been the biggest puzzle for me - getting my hips involved in the swing without causing a slice. The other aspect of the golf swing explained by Joe Dante so much better than I've seen before is how to create lag. His unique wrist-cock and swing make the whole swing sequence make much more sense. This is the first book I've read that has made me really change my golf swing - for the better. The belt drill is the most useful drill I've ever tried. The first time out, my swing was more powerful and accurate - and I'm hitting my driver with a high draw!

He spends a little too much time discussing what most golfers and instructors do wrong, but once he gets to his four moves, it becomes clear why he spent the time dispelling old myths. If you've read all the others already, do yourself a favor and read one more.
