4.0 out of 5 stars great and useful tool
I have one of these Smart Power Duet processoe/blenders and I think it is a very handy and space saving tool. I set it up on my counter and use it all the time. As far as noise goes, what electric power tool isn't. It is worth it for the quick job it does.

2.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly loud!!!!!
I live in a small space and wanted a smaller food processor and a blender and this seemed to be a great solution. In principle it is a really good idea but the manufacturer should have included hearing protection. I use my earplugs when I use this machine. It's as loud as a skill saw. The blender design is such that there are always chunks in my smoothies. I can't...

I'm going to have my old Cusinart DLC-7 repaired and go back to it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Infrequent use, but still broke in under 18mo, December 29, 2009
This review is from: FPB%2D5CHBFR SmartPower Duet Blender%2FFood Processor %2D Factory Reconditioned
As stated in the title, I received this a bit over a year ago. In that time, I have perhaps used the blender a half dozen times, and the food processor two or three.

Today, upon using the food processor to mix up some hummus, I saw a puff of smoke, a spark, and the tell-tale whiff of ozone which will always indicate dead electronics. I had high hopes for this appliance, but it will be finding its way into the trash bin, and I will not be purchasing the Cuisinart brand again, despite having always heard good reviews of their products.

I got this blender combo for Christmas and I loved it for the grater and food processing it did. But the other night I was making smoothies and about half way thru crushing the ice with the ice crushing button the blender (full mind you) popped up off of the rotating blades which made both sets on the base and the blender melt and shred each other now the unit is completely useless!

2.0 out of 5 stars Unusably Loud, December 25, 2008

This thing has got a lot of power, and as long as the bucket is big enough for your needs, it will do anything you need out of a food processor.

However, it is unbearably loud--so much so that I often change my recipe plans if it involves this tool. I mean, it is painful to be within 10 feet of it grinding some pesto.

Don't buy this. Unless you have ear protection in your kitchen repertoire.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't do what it shows about itself, May 15, 2010
This review is from: FPB%2D5CHBFR SmartPower Duet Blender%2FFood Processor %2D Factory Reconditioned
I admit that I did not use this product for any extensive time, and it will be returned to the store soon. Here's why.

The cover of the instruction booklet for this blender/food processor depicts it with some red juice in the blender, and slices of the lemon inside the food processor part. This is the same picture as used at amazon.com, only larger. The slices are clearly visible.

Once the processor was purchased, we decided to slice a cucumber or lemon. This turned out to be impossible, since the the only way to push the food into the processor is by pushing it through the feed tube, which is much narrower than any cucumber of lemon. Perusing the manual did not bring any discovery, though it was interesting to learn that some types of foods must be frozen before processed in this unit.

However, the picture on the cover clearly shows me that I'm wrong and there must be some other way, since the slices of the lemon inside are all perfect complete circles. There must be something I'm missing, right?

So I called Cuisinart customer service, and asked very straightforward question: how to achieve the slices of the lemon the way they are on the cover?

Answer: it's impossible. You have to cut the lemon in half first, so it fits in the feed tube.

Me: but on the cover, they are not cut in half.

Cuisinart: oh, it's just for picture.

Me: so you are saying that the main picture of your product shows the result that your product in fact can't do, right?

Cuisinart: OK, may we help you with something else?

No, I certainly don't have any other questions. If this product lies to me already on the cover, that's where it will end.

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't believe how loud it could be!, July 8, 2010

I bought this item at Costco without looking at any reviews first. What a disaster and waste of time and money. I couldn't believe why people were complaining about the noise. A food processor has to make some noise, doesn't it? I was going to give it a chance because it couldn't be that bad. Well, I haven't actually used it with food and will not. I unpacked the whole thing and started the motor. Not bad! Regular bearable and expexted noise. But as soon as I placed either the food processor or the blender part on it... Just unbearable!!! No kidding, you need ear protection. I was thinking people were exagerating when complaining about the noise but they're not. This thing hurts my ear after more than a couple of seconds of operation. It is being returned today. I cannot deal with something this loud.

My husband says it is not the motor that is loud as we proved to ourselves by starting it without the processor or the blender. It is the gear mesh that is loose probably to make it easier to "place" the parts on it. They slide in so easily. But with it being loose and rotating so fast, it actually goes back and forth therefore creating the unbearable rattling noise.

And with all the reviews indicating that the parts keep breaking, I don't want to deal with the hassle.

Really not worth spending $60 on something like this. BUYERS BEWARE!

2.0 out of 5 stars Blender motor quit after 1 1/2 years, September 29, 2010

This review is from: FPB%2D5CHBFR SmartPower Duet Blender%2FFood Processor %2D Factory Reconditioned
I bought the Blender 1 1/2 years ago at Costco, liking the space saving food processor and the sturdy base with the glass pitcher. The blender worked well until last week when while making a smoothie the blade would not turn. On the second try there was the smell of a burnt out motor and that's it. I liked it better than my previous Black and Decker. THe problem with that was that the plastic ring connecting it to the base broke after every third use causing a leak. The Cuisinart blender has a much more sturdy base. Still a blender should last longer than 1 1/2 years. Now I have a good pitcher by Cuisinart and a motor base by Black and Decker, which can't be used together.
