Yep, you have to pay the first month to get the additional free month of 250MB 3G access and the PSN game (Super Stardust Delta). Fortunately you can just pay for the cheaper 250MB instead of the more-expensive 3GB plan to get the free month/PSN game. I think the 250MB plan is $15/month, so really you are actually paying for the "free PSN game", but at least you'll get 2 months of testing out the 3G service to see if it's for you or not (you can cancel the 3G subscription at any time...not a long-term contract like most cellphones are).
You could get one decent game like Wipeout or Modnation Racers every month at the cost of that $30 plan, and the $15 plan could instead net you a game like Escape Plan or Super Stardust Delta once a month with a little left over(in SSD's case, anyways).
At least you can use Skype over the 3G networks, that's kind of a game-changer for me. I won't need to get a cell phone now.
What I don't get is why you have to wait 30 days to get the code. If you activate the 3G plan, you already paid, so it's not like you can return or cancel it. I really want to play this game, waiting 30 days kinda sucks. I guess the other 4 games will have to do.
