Amazon.com Product Description

Frye brings a classic, all-American inclination to this Christine satchel. Crafted from rich, rugged leathers and sturdy hardware, this timeless accessory is one you'll want to sport for years to come.

From the Manufacturer

The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

I love Frye boots and have been wearing them for years. I decided to check on what their bags were like. They are all gorgeous and, like the boots, will probably last forever. I have been wearing a Coach backpack for years but I thought at my age I should graduate to something a bit more sophisticated.

I bought the black version although the brown looked gorgeous too. It was just the right size for me and I am able to carry so much in it--my wallet, a book, sunglasses, makeup and a bottle of water, etc.The leather is soft and supple. The bottom has a reinforced piece of leather for some support. The inside lining is black so your stuff can seem like it's in a black hole sometimes. A contrasting color might have been a good idea. I have read reviews on Frye bags before and most have complained that the handles are not enough to wear over your shoulder---impossible while wearing a coat. This turns out to be very true and can be frustrating. This style, however, comes with a removable shoulder strap that is made from braided leather and zipper teeth which I found to be a nice touch.

The only reason I am not ecstatic over this bag is that I am still feeling guilty for spending so much on a bag. I mean, does any woman REALLY need to spend more than $50 on a pocket book? Just a rhetorical question. I'll get over it.

3.0 out of 5 stars good looking bag, September 5, 2009

Nice metal hardware details, soft leather. Shoulder strap shorter than I had hoped, only gives you three or four extra inches length as compared to the double handles.
