Beautiful and well made these are very comfortable and fit as expected on my size 13 medium foot.
These shipped on time, fit well, and look great.
They are by no means the cheapest priced shoes and boots out there but I am willing to pay to buy american.

Product Description

The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

I purchased these shoes on June 26th, 2013. Today is September 30th, 2013.
The soles have already ruptured after just 3 months of wear, and that's assuming I wore them everyday, which I did not.

So here's my breakdown on the shoes...

    Pros:
    - They wear-in very fast. After a few weeks they really mold to your feet.
    - The inside is very snug and comfortable.
    - The color is amazing (I got the redwood finish). It's even more amazing as you wear them in.

    Cons:
    - The soles are not robust at all (mine burst open at just 3 months). As far as I'm concerned, a shoe with a bad sole is a shoe with a bad soul.

Obviously I decided to write this review today because today is the day the shoes broke.
Just because I've always bought Fry's and I genuinely liked these shoes while they lasted, I am giving them a very generous 3 stars.

With that said, I will keep everyone updated on how Frye's service is when things go wrong...

Since I like classic styles with thick welts (unlike most dainty, Italian shoes), I normally buy English shoes. These shoes fit the bill, however. They are supposed to be bench-made in Mexico. They are a fantastic example of a classic derby shoe, and a perfect "business-casual" (dressed-down) shoe.

Be aware that I ordered my normal size (10.5), and they were a half size too big. I had to exchange them, which was relatively painless.

    ***UPDATE - November 2014***

I've worn these shoes several times a week since I bought them. Still loving them. I was walking home in the rain last week, and I noticed my feet were pretty cold and seemingly wet. I thought it was because I had stepped in a deep puddle. Nope. Nickel-to-quarter size holes in each sole. I was walking on cobbles, but I usually just walk from the parking garage to the office. I called Frye to inquire about repairs (I don't really trust my local cobbler for this). They told me they were still in warranty, and gave me the control number and instructions for sending them in for repair. I like good customer service. That may push these to five stars. I'll update after the repair.

These shoes are comfortable, well made, durable, and look good with Chinos and other business casual clothes. However, I did not like the original distressed finish, which is light on the top and dark on the toes and backs, such that the shiny toes stand out from a distance. I eventually corrected this by first applying leather moisturizer and then Frye weatherproof dressing. This removed some of the original finish and darkened the shoes to a medium brown with the toes and backs only slightly darker. Given the waterproofing and thick leather soles, the shoes are nearly as good in rain and light snow as rubber-soled shoes.

I am a big fan for FRYE's boots owning several pairs. I like the build quality and I like that they are made in America. They are by no means the cheapest priced shoes and boots out there but I am willing to pay to buy american. So it is upsetting that for the price of these shoes they are not made in the U.S.

Aside from that the shoes build quality seems good and they are quite comfortable. Time will tell as to the durability but I plan on wearing them to work every day.

They do run a half size bigger than other shoes (in ASICS I wear a 10, these I bought 9.5).

Colour and shape easy to combine either casual or a bit less casual. Easy to fit and light. Any weather and any time.

First and most important, make sure you order a half size small. I read the reviews here, I ordered a half size small and the fit is perfect.

Shoes themselves are very nice, good leather well made, a bit heavier than I'm used to but not unacceptably so.

We'll see how they actually hold together.

I have always loved Frye's and now own 3 pairs. 2 of which are these shoes in black and brown. They look great with jeans or cotton pants and are extremely comfortable. The leather is supple and looks worn without looking cheap. They fit true to size I would say. I am almost thinking about buying the boot version.
