I wear a size 9 with Allen Edmonds and other leather dress shoes. So I ordered a 9 for this as well. It fits a little large, about half a size but since it's a boot, it doesn't matter too much after thicker socks are worn.

The boots will need some breaking-in to get the ankle parts comfortable enough but all in all, they look fantastic, fits very comfortably, the sole is solid but pliable. Love it!

*UPDATE AFTER BREAK-IN PERIOD*

I brought these to a trip, fresh out of the box, to Hong Kong, and if you've been there, you know there's A LOT of walking involved.

The boots do need to be broken-into, not for the sole part, but the ankle area.

Unlike other desert/chukkas that have no edge lining, the James' rounded edge do cause some pressure/pain around the ankle bones if you're not used to having something stiff hitting that area or aren't wearing thick socks.

The edge softens up and the the discomfort disappeared after 2-3 days or so, that's around 8 hours of walking.

After which, the ankle lip area feels just like any edge-less boot.

I applied a couple of coats of suede protector before wearing these as I knew it'll rain and odds of having someone step on me is very, very high in HK, worked well and I only had one tiny smudge to clean up after a 10-day trip.

The Frye James Chukka boot is a worthy addition to the Frye line. It's leathers are top grade and they buff to a rich shine, just like the James lace up boot. I hesitated to get the Chukka because it's so similar to the lace-up, but having this pair allows me to alternate wearing the two pair. This lets each pair dry after wearing and will extend the life of both. I heartily recommend these boots to you.

These boot/shoes are great. I ordered the same size as my dress shoes (I wear Allen Edmonds) and they fit perfectly from the moment I put them on. In response to other comments, I've had no break in period and have not left black scuffs on floors.

Not one of FRYE's most comfortable shoes, but a good overall fit and style. I bought to primarily wear with jeans and khakis and for that purpose that are great. Fit seems true to size and with dressing that won't show blemishes too easily. Would recommend if you are looking for a more casual chukka...

I'm thinking of getting another pair, perhaps the lace-up ones. Really like the look and the feel.

Great leather; great stitching (even though I’ve read that Frye isn’t owned by Frye anymore)! No cushion in the foot bed because of the leather bottoms (but I knew this); comfortable except when standing in a Frankfort airport for 4.5 hours: and, my index toe joint actually rubbed on the toe box of the boot until I had a small blister (that night in Frankfurt).

So, I will take to a leather shoe shop and have them stretched a bit; however, I had ordered a half size bigger than what I typically wear.

This Shoes are Perfect!. Why? well, Many reasons. The most important things about Men's shoes in order of importance for me are: Very Comfortable, Great Price, .Stylish and Durable First, shoes that fit well and very comfortable in long standing or walks are a must. Otherwise, no matter how good-looking your shoes are, they will look terrible to you when your feet feel really sore when you walk with them- so they must be functional. Second, It's always a great feeling getting compliments about your shoes.
Third; These shoes look great with dressy or rugged jeans, cotton or wool trousers of course, I believe these shoes are built to last, with its great construction.

These are superb chukkas. I've had them for several weeks and love wearing them. The leather is high quality. They do require a bit of a break-in period but that's expected for good leather shoes--a bit of moleskin and some oil and I've had no issues wearing them comfortably. They do run large. I wear a 10 1/2 and ordered a 10. Time to buy a pair of black ones....

Really great look. The leather has a broken in look to it that adds a lot. The fit was prefect.

My one reminder to others shopping, Frye shoes require a break in. The first couple days on your feet are tough. I highly recommend a shoe tree to help if you have a high instep like I do. It really helps the break in process to put the shoe tree in for a few days before your first wear.

I'm not sure how to care for the boot, but it looks like it will last forever.
