I have always loved Frye's and now own 3 pairs. 2 of which are these shoes in black and brown. They look great with jeans or cotton pants and are extremely comfortable. The leather is supple and looks worn without looking cheap. They fit true to size I would say. I am almost thinking about buying the boot version.

I bought a pair of Frye Arkansas boots last year, and I love wearing them every day. So when I needed a new pair of office/teaching shoes, I bought some more Fryes. I haven't had these very long, but I like them. They're nice looking, comfortable, and really well-made. The antique finish just looks grey, but it goes away with some polishing. They're a little spendy, but I predict they'll last long enough to justify the cost.

These shoes are comfortable, well made, durable, and look good with Chinos and other business casual clothes. However, I did not like the original distressed finish, which is light on the top and dark on the toes and backs, such that the shiny toes stand out from a distance. I eventually corrected this by first applying leather moisturizer and then Frye weatherproof dressing. This removed some of the original finish and darkened the shoes to a medium brown with the toes and backs only slightly darker. Given the waterproofing and thick leather soles, the shoes are nearly as good in rain and light snow as rubber-soled shoes.

FRYE ADDICTION,

I'm still trying to figure out why if anyone buys a pair of shoes or boots from FRYE, must somehow get themselves another pair even if its in the same style and only different color??!!well that is the magic of Frye footwear..its great Quality, super tough rugged leather, timeless styles & so much more. I got myself a Black pair and simply love em..they look great on any kind of jeans..although the pair is mentioned as 'Black', its mostly grey with front and back ends in shades of black..even the laces are distressed from grey to black shades. With time and proper polishing the shoe will mature, form its own wrinkles and look even better..its like a wine among shoes and I'm addicted.

rock solid,

This shoe is rock solid. No, really, it's rock solid. During the week or so it took to break them in I found them to be unforgiving; the soles are almost completely leather which makes walking noisy (think what a cowboy boot sounds like) and slippery until they're broken in. Initially it felt/sounded like I strapped on wooden clogs. My only complaint on quality is that the shoes' heals are about 1/8" taller than the front bottom surface. So when I'm sitting with weight on the heals, the front of my feet are slightly off the ground which leads to some tapping of the foot. I think that will go away as the shoe breaks in more. However, now I'm very happy with my purchase. The leather is very thick, the laces appear like they'll last longer than most laces, and they look good. I can see keeping these for many years and I'll buy another pair in a different color when they go on sale again. 2/11/2012 update: The shoes are holding up very well even though I've worn them most days but one of them has developed a squeak. Unless I can find a way to fix this I won't be wearing them anymore. |
