Product Description

The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

These sandals are made of really thick leather as thick as belt leather. I soaked them in mink oil which made them soft. If they hurt your feet wear light socks for a while until they conform to your feet which did not take long. these sandals are really well made and should last a long time and they are not made in china, ya hoo. Made in Mexico. Feels true to size. I always wanted a pair of sandals like this because they have a look of being well made and sturdy. Although pricey I think they are worth it.

As other reviewers have noticed, the materials and the construction seem to be good, and the sandal is good looking. I expect it will take time to break in the leather. I tried coconut oil to soften it, but had limited success.
On the other hand, after a single long day of urban walking I found that the soles are eroding very quickly. The heel (can be seen in the photos) is inappropriate and I got it replaced right away. At the same time I got a thin rubber sole protection layer. Without this the sandal was slippery on many surfaces. This cost me extra $40, but is money well spent. I now have better traction, the sandal will last longer and it will be possible to replace the heel and the sole in the future when they wear out. I got this sandal on sale under $100, so my total cost is under $140 and I think it is worth it. On the other hand, if I had to pay $150 for the sandal + $40 for the heels and sole guards, that to me would be too expensive.

These sandals are great looking, which is why I bought them. But they can hurt the feet a bit at first. The leather is strong and thick. So expect some break in time. Don't plan on walking very far at first. After I had received them and worn them, I noticed that I could have gotten them for 50 dollars cheaper through Zappos. :( Oh well. I still like them. They seem to be built for the long haul. But only time will tell.

Really nice- great look and comfortable fit. Size runs large. Will be a great dressier casual sandal than any I have- I don't intend to walk long distances in these but they are comfortable.
