I was under the impression they were USA made, but found out upon receipt, Mexico.

I in fact have several US-made Frye's before, and this pair of Mexican-made boots seem to use better leather.

These boots are very well constructed and the leather and lining are of good quality.

Absolutely great boots. The quality of leather and workmanship is just top-notch. I in fact have several US-made Frye's before, and this pair of Mexican-made boots seem to use better leather. I actually think that the leather here is better than that of Allen Edmonds (which I also have). Amazon again has the best price.

This is a high quality boot, well constructed with good materials. The leather was a bit stiffer than I expected, but it is breaking in well. There is initially a bit a slip on the toe when walking, as the rubber sole does not extend to cover the toe. This is an odd choice, but the leather roughens up quickly. Others have commented on the boot being made in Mexico. This might have a psychological impact, but the quality does not seem to have been affected.

These boots are very well constructed and the leather and lining are of good quality. They are narrower than a similar pair of Wolverine 1000 mile boots I have, and the toe box is shorter (perpendicular to the ground) as well. I like the snugness, but there isn't really space in this shoe for any kind of insert (I have some Sole insoles in those Wolverines, and they are both the same size shoe). Unlike many leather soled shoes, I was surprised to find that these come with a nice amount of cushion in the footbed.

My kingdom for a pair of quality leather walking shoes! You'd think that, at this price point, you'd be buying something of reasonably high quality. Think again. Terrible build quality. I had to get them resoled within the first three months. The leather was tearing apart at the seams within five months. Totally useless within six. Even a cobbler couldn't fix it. Granted, I am a little rough on my shoes, but this is ridiculous. I take care of what I own, but I use what I own as well. These can't stand up in pedestrian-only lifestyles. They just can't.

Uncertain as to why, but Frye shoes/boots fit my feet perfectly. This is my second pair of Frye boots and I can wear them all day on the first outing. The leather is a bit stiff at first, but forms to my foot very nicely. I have read some other comments remarking about them having been made in Mexico. They match up very well in workmanship and materials to USA manufactured Frye shoes. I also have a pair of Old Gringo boots, manufactured in Mexico which I have had for several years. The workmanship on those boots is also excellent.

Stylish and hip, you can't go wrong.

Frye shoes are said to be durable. But this Oliver chukka is not the case. Even though the shoe is very comfortable like sneakers, and look nice and durable, the outsole design has two major flaws fundamentally.

The first problem is the exposed welted thread on the outsole. Just wearing two days, the thread on the toe area is already rubbed down and may break soon. The implication of broken welt thread is likely the separation of the outsole from the top leather.

The second problem, the most detrimental to usability in a rainy season, is the rubber overlay design. The outsole consists of rubber and the leather as can be seen in the picture. There are two boundaries, one at the toe area, and the other at the mid sole. At the interface where the rubber meets the leather, glue is used to hold two materials together. But the glued area where the rubber meets the leather is too small, and there is no way to hold them together. The rubber is already separated from the leather on the toe area, just after I walked 1km on the asphalt road. (ie. just after two days of wearing...) At the separated interface, I can see 2mm gap without bending the outsole. Every Frye pair with the same outsole design will develop the same problem. Water will eventually enter inside through the gap and wet your feet, when you wear them rainy days and walk on puddles.

Quality is sub par. After wearing the Frye Men's Oliver Chukka Shoe 4 times, the leather sole has worn through the stitching at the toe of the boot. I like the look and feel of the boot but the craftsmanship is terrible. Is this boot imported ??

These are my daily drivers. Handsome shoes and timeless style. The black pair are glove soft. The brown pair are slightly stiffer leather, but still pliable and comfortable. I have had only good experience with Frye shoes.
